Bette was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on December 29, 1929. After graduating from high school, Bette went to beauty school to become a makeup artist, soon after she found work at Helena Rubinstein in Boston where she met her husband, Charles Constantine, a hair stylist. Together, they had 2 children: Michelle and Jay. Later in her life she went back to school to become an LPN. She took a position as a private duty nurse for a retired VP of GM and his wife in Boca Raton. She found them to be very interesting, generous, lovely people and was very proud to work for them. Bette was always a wonderful caregiver to those in need, even when she wasn’t working.
In her free time Bette loved to travel, she visited Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Greece and more, the Isle of Crete was a special place for her. While visiting she had a feeling that she had been there before, she even knew the streets and where they lead, although that was her first visit. It was a wonderful story we loved hearing. Bette enjoyed shopping in the countries she visited and was known to send furniture and collectibles back from her travels.
She had a wonderful sense of humor, she enjoyed listening to and telling funny stories over a good glass of champagne while visiting with family and friends. She loved to bake and was always sharing cakes and brownies with those she appreciated. She also made an amazing antipasto to share at dinner parties.
Bette is survived by her daughter Michelle Constantine, four nieces Robin, Elizabeth, Kim, Jennifer and their families, her wonderful caregivers, Murdilla, Patsy and Norma and many friends. Preceding her in death was her husband Charles, her brother Kenneth, her son Jay, nephew John and her beloved cat, Kimmy.
Memorial dinners will be held in Florida and Massachusetts to share stories and celebrate Bette’s life, with a nice glass of champagne of course.
Contributions in memory of Bette can be made to the wonderful people at Trustbridge Hospice Care (formally Hospice by the Sea) in West Palm Beach, FL.
