

Irene A. Hancock, 91, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 8, at 3:30 p.m. at the chapel at Spanish River Church, 2400 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33431. Inurnment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Irene was born March 15, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan. She was a 1942 graduate of Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, and was a choral director and music teacher. In later years, she and her family were founding members of the Palm Beach Gold Coasters motorhome club in southeastern Florida. Irene was a music lover, an avid cook and seamstress, and a NASCAR fan.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, CWO4 Merle H. Hancock (USN, Ret.), and a daughter, Carol A. Kemerer. She is survived by daughter Kathleen Hancock of Durham, North Carolina; son Steven and daughter-in-law Debera of Delray Beach; and granddaughters Elizabeth, Emily, and Erin.
In lieu of flowers and in consideration of Irene's love of choral music, the family suggests donations to the Olympic Heights Community High School Choral Department, 20101 Lyons Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33434 (designate "Choral Department").
