Mark Randall Jones, born October 14, 1951, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mark was born in Salisbury, Maryland, the youngest of five children. The family moved often, from coast to coast, for his father’s work. Mark attended Valley Forge Military Academy, and settled in South Florida after high school. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters Marcia and Lynn, and brother Randy.
On July 20, 1973, Mark married the love of his life, Peggy Dillon. Mark and Peggy met in Fort Lauderdale, FL while she was on vacation from her home in Hingham, MA. It was love at first sight and they both recall seeing fireworks. Their brief courtship was the beginning of a beautiful life together that spanned 52 years.
Mark was a man of boundless adventure. His journeys took him across the globe, always in the company of friends and family. From teeing off on the world’s best golf courses to cheering courtside during the Chicago Bulls’ legendary dynasty, he lived his very best life. Mark earned his pilot’s license, enabling him to share one of his favorite places on earth, Scotland Cay in The Abacos, with those he loved.
Mark’s life was defined by his warmth, fierce loyalty, and entrepreneurial spirit. In 1981, he founded Jones Lumber Company. What began as a small operation started out of his living room with one delivery truck grew into a thriving business enterprise serving all of South Florida. To this day, Jones Lumber is an industry-leading building materials supplier known for its long-time employees and exceptional service. Mark led the company with integrity and vision until his well-earned retirement in 2020.
In retirement, Mark embraced life’s simple joys. He spent many happy days on the golf course at Adios or Royal Palm, where his camaraderie and sportsmanship made him a valued companion. He could often be found on the course at sunrise, ready for the first tee. Evenings found him at home eating dinner, sipping a Manhattan, or more likely in his favorite chair watching a football game. Mark took great pride in keeping his belongings and affairs in perfect order—a reflection of his meticulous nature. Mark was an avid reader, building an expansive library and becoming well-versed on many subjects. He often gave the gift of books. His favorite moments were when everyone was together, laughing and sharing inside jokes. Above all, he cherished his family and delighted in celebrating their achievements and creating treasured memories together.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; his daughters, Jody (Andrew Turner) and Tracey (Matt Thompson); his four adored grandchildren: Jack, Dillon, Julianne, and Sarah; his sister Maria; dog Mr. Higgins; and a large, close-knit extended family. He is also remembered fondly by many friends who were touched by his exceptional sense of humor, generosity, and loyal friendship.
A viewing will be held on January 7, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home. A funeral mass will take place on January 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boca Raton Regional Hospital in honor of Mark’s generous spirit.
Mark’s legacy is love and devotion to his loved ones. He always kept a watchful eye on his family via Find My Friends, and we know he will continue to do so. Mark lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him and shared in the laughter and adventure of his wonderful life.
