On April Fool’s Day 1940, Susie entered the world in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She grew up in Springfield, Oregon with her adoptive parents, Willard and Kathleen Cloyes and brother Don. After she finished her schooling, she moved to San Francisco and took a job with a glass company. During her time there, she met Fred, a Naval Instructor at Treasure Island. On May 3, 1963, they got married, and in April1964, son Fred was born.
In 1966, Fred was discharged from the Navy, and the young family drove cross-country to Cocoa Beach, Florida. They moved in with Fred’s mom, Gert, and Fred went to work with IBM in the Space Program at the Cape Kennedy Facility. They soon moved into their own home in Titusville, and in January 1967, daughter Molly was born.
They moved to Vails Gate, NY in 1969, where Fred worked at IBM’s East Fishkill Facility. In April 1970, son Christopher was born, and in 1971, they moved to Pine Plains, a small farming community.
The family moved to Yokohama, Japan in 1978 and spent four happy years there. They returned to the U.S. in 1982 and settled in Boca Raton, Florida. Fred retired from IBM in 1996 after 30 years of service.
In their retirement years, Fred and Susie traveled to various states to attend reunions of Fred’s first ship, USS The Sullivans. They enjoyed volunteering as dog walkers at their local animal shelter, as well as their volunteer work at the West Boca Medical Center. Visits with grandchildren were always a pleasure. Sadly, son Chris passed away in 2016.
Susie was the official scorekeeper every night during Jeopardy. (She kept score to ensure Fred didn’t cheat.)
In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her brother Don, and son Chris. She is survived by her loving husband Fred, son Fred (Jennifer), daughter Molly, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Katie, Lilly, Christopher, Spenser, Melissa, Damion, and Krystal.
Susie was a very special and caring person. She will be missed, but Heaven has gained another angel.
