Hi Dad , 
       Its Nov 6 , the day you went to see the Lord many years ago. I miss you so much , you were my best friend and the best dad in the world. Whenever im out in my garden i think of you, i know you would love it. I miss your guitar playing and all the old memories of you and mom at the Colcas . I miss fishing and shrimping with you at the Boca Inlet. Trent is 18 now and misses you too. Xmas is never the same without you around. I keep your picture above my kitchen sink, it helps to see your face 🙂 i miss you and will see you and mom soon.....  Love Mouse

Hi Dad, its 2020 Sept 5th, I often think about you and always wish you into my dreams. Its crazy times here now ,I miss you so much and Trent is 15 now, he misses you too. Just always thinking of you and I know i will see you and mom again  soon. My heart aches without you here ,I know you would love my house and property, I did it all for you dad, miss you and love you. 

Its been 10 years gone by, and i find myself back in boca raton living for a short while. I cant help but think of you Mickey Pa, and wonder how things are going up there, all i can say, is i am glad you are waiting for us. Its not the same around here, with so many gone and moved away. I just wanted to say we love and miss, still to this very day. You have a new grandson his name is Evan Lee Thornton, born 8.27.19. See ya soon.

To the greatest, kindest man, who ever lived in my lifetime. There isn't a moment that goes by where I don't think about you, and all those memories, we all hold sacred, on the ole lot and house in boca raton. Your family misses you like no other.

Mickey Thornton, the kindest father-in-law and a wonderful grandfather to my children.  From the moment I first met him, I knew I was loved.  He was so kind to me in every way and I felt so welcome in his home.  He had the most loving disposition and would do anything he could for you.  You couldn't help but want to do all you could for him right back because this kind of love is rare and hard to find.  There are far too many wonderful memories to begin to share but the ones that touched me the most were the family times spent together. I had this wonderful extended family of father, mother, brothers and sisters to share my life with and I loved all of them dearly.  We shared many a meal together (including bologna sandwiches), listened to many hours of guitar playing, enjoyed our sing-alongs and would quickly rush out after all that to get 2 dozen vanilla cream-filled donuts at Dunkin' Donuts to share over coffee.  I truly loved all our boat rides (learned to water ski then) and night shrimp fishing when a shrimp jumped right into the boat!  We just had a blast together and those memories are forever etched in my mind.  You may think it was nothing fancy or special but my heart was always filled with joy and excitement. It was a tragedy the day Mom (Vi) passed and my heart sank for each one in the family. With God's grace and all of us pulling together, the Lord saw us through this difficult time. Today we may all live far apart now but the memories and all the love remain close in my heart.  You will never be forgotten, Mickey-Pa, and I cherish the day when I will see you and Mom Vi again in heaven with Our Lord who taught us each how to love.  Thank you for loving me and for sharing your precious family with me!  I am blessed because of you and grateful that you are no longer suffering here on earth.  It's not quite the same without you! Mickey Pa. You had a kind sense of humor. I remember my first cup of coffee with you on the porch. You told me congratulations for high school. You made me and your dad proud. I remember one time. You had a coffee can with a dot marked right in the center. Me Trent and Lindsay still remember us trying to hit the mark. We came so far away from it. You, Mickey Pa, on the other hand, hit the mark in one shot. You didn't even have to take a long time to aim. How did you do it. It must be the Cherokee Indian inside you. Jesus love you so much that Grandma Vi would be cheering for you the whole way. The mo-ped was a trip.especially the vacant lot next door. I joint the NJROTC for you and my moms dad Paul. Wish I had more to tell. Hard in words but thoughts in me about you will last forever.

Dear Lord Jesus, tell my Dad happy birthday & I miss him, love him and can't wait to see him again soon! And thank you, Lord, for allowing me the privilege and precious blessing of visiting with Dad in so many of my dreams at night since he's been gone. Love, Brenda

(July 16, 2014- I recently came across this letter which was written by my daughter, Alexis (Alex) to my father when he was gravely ill. I was trying to rush to his bedside in FL with my sister Wendy. We were en route from Pittsburgh, PA  airport when we received the news via phone call from our brother Mike that he had passed away. He never received this letter from my daughter.

She was, however, able to speak to him on the phone that prior July 2010 and tell him her soon to be born baby boy would have his name - Maddoxx Mickey Heil. My dad was so proud. 

Later that same evening, he made a call to me to tell us he had adrenal cancer. Alex actually gave her baby my dad's name before we were informed he was terminally ill. How bittersweet...

Today, I would like to share her sweet goodbye to her "Papa" with friends and family).

"A LETTER TO PAPA"

Dear Papa,
I miss you so much. I wish I could've came and seen you with Maddoxx and mom and Wendy, and spent Christmas with you. I don't even remember what you look like its been so long. I don't know if you remember what I look like. I've had 4 of my friends die in 3 and a half weeks, one of my friends parents, and a friends grandparent. And knowing that Im not going to be able to see you before your time comes breaks my heart. Its so hard dealing with these things, and since I hadn't really experienced the true emotion until a few weeks ago I don't know what to do with myself now. Its so hard on me. But I have to deal with these emotions just like I have to deal with the hard things that come along my way everyday. I have a job now, and I'm graduating (high school) this year. Working on getting my license and car. Maddoxx is doing great, hes starting to hold his head up like a big boy! And hes learning how to use his laugh. Hes the greatest ever, I love him to death. I really like to do art and hopefully can pursue that as a career one day. I miss your house, and your boat, and your cats and dog. You playing guitar. The ridiculous amount of ornaments that were on your tree every Christmas. And Betty, and your waterbed and your lawnmower that we used to ride on together. And the big tree in your backyard. I remember one time at Easter I had to pee so bad and I was standing out on the back porch and I couldn't get in because the door was locked I peed in my purple Easter dress and had to change into a huge Mickey Mouse t-shirt. That was the worst ever! I was so embarrassed. You know Maddoxx's middle name is Mickey? I did it just for you. Papa, I know these aren't the last words you'll hear from me, because I know you will hear me talking to you. So watch me and Maddoxx grow. Guide me in the right direction and show me a good path to take. You will always be remembered and never forgotten. You're my angel Papa. I Love You.

In honor of my Dad I am also writing a note to say Merry Christmas .Dad always made Christmas special,especially the way he darkened the ham. But it was the best darn ham you ever had,I still can't figure it out.We'll see you soon Dad.

Merry Christmas and many blessings to all of our family in memory of Dad. It has been a year since he has gone to be with the Lord, but one day closer to seeing him again.

Many people that knew my Dad, Mickey T., don't know much about our lives when we were in Michigan, just the Florida version. ( Unless you knew us up-north, of course). My childhood was awesome because of the stuff my Dad used to do with us and let us get away with. Seriously, i have many fond memories of family and friends that I'll never forget. That's the part of Michigan i miss the most. My Dad was just an over-grown kid and we did what he did. I think I could write a book, with the help of my brothers and sisters, about the life and times of Mickey T. and what fun we had as one of his kids, except for ever-looming threat of the barber strap that was used to tan our hides if we were naughty little children. We all loved Florida too, no doubt. It took me about 3 years before I decided I kind of liked it down here. I  used to drop by and visit with Dad, and have a cup, and visit with him on the back porch. Somehow, I still think I can just pick up the phone and call him when I think of some problem I'm having with my car or some other mechanical issue. Oh, well, it was a great ride, as I used to tell him. I guess could just always ask Jesus to tell my Mom and Dad I said hello. Thanks for being my Dad.    Love, Mike.

He was the greatest grand father i ever knew. . .I am proud to bear the thornton name and the honors and traditions that follow it. . . He was known as Mickey Pa, but to many of us he was friend, father, and grandfather. Lets never forget the man he was, and the man he became, slow to anger and always tried to keep the peace. He loved everyone and took care of evryone. We love you but we are glad that your spirit now soars above and beyond peacefully and eternally and without pain. . . We were all glad to have known you, but we'll see you soon. . . Until we all meet again. . .

Wow!  I didn't realize that Mickey was born in Nashville, Tennessee!  All this time I thought he was a Michigander but now know that he was a Tennessean!  I knew there was something I liked about him!

Letter from Heaven

To my dearest family,
Some things I would like to say,
But first of all, to let you know
That I arrived ok.

I’m writing this from Heaven
Where I dwell with God above,

That day that I had to leave you
When my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me
And He said, I welcome you.

Then God gave me a list of things

Uncle Mick has been a very special person to me throughout my entire life.....but especially when I was a kid living in Trenton, Michigan. I can only say "wow" as I think back to those days and the impression that both Uncle Mick and Aunt Vi left on me when I was young.

Mick had a very rare and unique quality about him. And that was his ability to make everyone who knew him feel particularly special. He made you feel like you were his best friend. If you needed him, he was always there for you. 

During the latter years of his life, Mick and I had some deep one on one conversations out on his back porch, and he would open up to me about his life and his feelings about certain things. Mike, Alan, Mark, Brenda, Adam, and Wendy.....Your dad loved you very much. 

May we all treasure him in our hearts forever. 

Uncle Mick.....Rest in peace my good friend.

My heart is saddened to lose such a happy, good hearted man.  so kind
 to everyone,  and a best friend to everyone he met.   He is with his family now forever in peace with our lord.     His Bro and my husband will welcome
him with open arms.    He was like a rock in our lives,  My heart goes

Uncle Mickey was a very special sweet man and he will be missed dearly.  He was always a very compassionate person very easy going.  This is one of lifes hardest things for us to go through losing a loved one.  We hope with time your sorrow eases.  Know that he is in God's loving arms now and pain free.  We will all see him again.  Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to everyone who knew and cared for Uncle Mick.  We love you and miss you.

My dad,the best dad anyone could ever ask for.Dad was always there for me.He gave everything he could,never took anything or wanted anything for himself.He couldv'e had a new car or a new boat or a bigger house but he always thought of us kids first and saved it all for us.He even shared it with   Betty's family.He never wanted to leave anyone out.He was a smart man.

When mom passed away I worried about dad a lot.He was like a mom and a dad to me.Dad was the most kind hearted,loving,giving dad ever.He always did the best he could in taking care of us.Dad really did do it all.

My first memories of my dad,think I was five, was him playing the guitarang singing.I thought he was the bestand he was a really hansome daddy too. Kinda like Elvis. I was very proud he was my daddy. Under The Boardwalk, Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around The Old Oak Tree, Hound Dog and  Wise Men and lot of others ,that's what he sang a lot. At the Colca's house,Frank and Jean,Mom and Dad and all of us kids,that's what I remember the most . Almost every weekend having a great time for many years. Those were the best memories. When I turned 12 mom passed away and those times ended. We just built new memories and never forgot the old ones.
Dad let me skate and Adam rode dirt bikes.He took us everywhere for competitions.Dad liked fun vacations.He took us to Michigan,Tennessee,Mississspi,the Smokey Mountains, and even to Disney at christmas time with mom. Dad loved fishingand taught us everything like skinning them,tieing a fishing knot, and how to hold them to get the hook out. At our dock or at the Boca Inlet or out in the oceanin Dad's boat,it was always a blast.You could't ask for a better time with Dad.

Dad could also fix just about anything, especially cars. But Dad couldn't fix his cancer.Everyone loved Dad so much. His neighbors Pete and Belinda,Tom and Kelly and all their kids were like dads own kids.He loved them just as much as us.I thank them most of all for being his friend ,loving him, and taking care of him. Dad is a great loss to all of us.
When Dad told me he had cancer I never thought he would die.I just didn't even think of that. I never knew how bad it was until I saw him.I wanted to stay and take care of him. I remember sitting by his bed that night and watching him trying to hold back my tears.That was really hard to see him suffer like he did. Dad told me to do to bed Mouse,that was Dad, always woriied about us and not himself. The next day he told me to go home and take care of my family. He was having a better day and we talked a lot.I thought he would get better. I never thought that was the last time I would see him.
Thank God for Kandi. She did what I wanted to do,but I couldn't be there.She showed my Dad love,kindness,and a gentle spirit.She went to the doctors with him,spoke for him,took a lot of time off work, researched for him and did a lot of other nice things for him. Dad thought of Kandi as a daughter and he loved her very much.Kandi was a blessing for all of us and I am so proud to have her in my dad's life. I can never thank her enough.
Daddy knew Jesus and would speak to him when he could not sleep and I have some great last memories with just me and Dad sitting right by his side holding his hand out on his porch in the warm rain,just the way he liked it. I loved my Daddy very much.He will be missed always. Merry Christmas Daddy .I will see you soon...Mouse
