Dr De Castilla was our first friend when we arrived at St Marys  Hospital in Knoxville Tenn in 1959 eager for new adventures and new learnings Pedro was from Peru and my husband from Argentina They bonded because of language and culture similarity
Dr De Castilla s outstanding traits were his integrity, his honesty, his moral character and his loyalty In addition he had a brilliant mind a never ending desire for intellectual and professional growth In his youth he focused on excellence in his surgical education and attaining new horizons in medicine during his fellowship in London
As a friend Pedro was the model of a true friend
He was always reliable and strong like the rock of Gibraltar As a matter of fact he got almost crushed by a refrigerator while helping in one of our moves
Through internship, residency, marriage , and growing children we enjoyed our time together
It was great to witness Pedros great love for his extraordinary wife and his children His family was everything for him
Pedro s humor was matchless His laughter was always ready to explode be it over the absurdities of life or the absurdities of human personalities
Pedro had a full good life enjoying his family and his travels He loved classical music, and the butterfly szroke and we will miss his infectious giggle for ever

My sincere condolences to your family. I had the great privilege of working  with him the last six years of his career at Scheurer. He taught me so much as a new surgical technologist. Now after having more than 25 years of working in surgery I’ve taught those skills to others. He was not only an amazing surgeon, but an amazing person inside and out. He will be greatly missed ❤️

Doc was one of a kind; a very special person that we always felt we were in good hands when we  had to pay him a visit at the Pigeon Clinic or ER. I know my Mom thought the world of you both. Sincere condolences and hugs.

I drove to Cass City last week to say my good byes to Kitty.  She is on hospice at home.  We spent a lot of time talking about our class of 65 and the great upbringing we had at that school. We both had wonderfully involved mothers  growing up. Send you a big hug dear friend of many years.

I was SO saddened to hear of Pedro's passing. What you must be going through! What a loss to the world - such a gentle, beautiful soul he was. Peter was such a good friend to my father all of their lives. And you and he and your family became beloved extensions to our family over the years.

I remember going to yours and Pedros wedding so many years ago as a child and then our dinners when I lived in San Francisco. Peter always made himself available to talk to my family when we were going through medical emergencies with my father, my mother and even myself you and Peter always made us feel like we were part of your family and you cared about us and we loved you so much for that.. your children are beautiful and I really appreciated that your son came to my mother's memorial and meeting your daughter at a dinner in San Francisco with the two of you.

We truly loved Doc and your family. He always made your appointment an enjoyable time with funny stories or comments. Doc’s personality was one of a kind. No matter if he was at the hospital or passing you on the street he always said hi and asked how you and your family were doing! That’s what made Scheurer Hospital what it is today. You all have our deepest sympathy, love and hugs! Keep his memories alive!
