

Pedro Antonio Ruiz de Castilla, affectionately known as “Doc”, passed peacefully on May 30, 2025, in Delray Beach, Florida, surrounded by family, love, music, laughter, tears and beautiful memories of an amazing life.
Pedro was born on September 7, 1933, in Lima, Peru, to Pedro Fortunato Ruiz de Castilla Vivanco and Maria Luz Urrunaga de Ruiz de Castilla.
He attended the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru, and came to the States in 1959. Pedro left for a year to conduct medical research in Liverpool, England, before coming back to the states to permanently reside. Through his medical journey, Pedro spent time in Knoxville, TN, Nashville, TN, Houghton, MI, and Detroit, MI, before ultimately moving to Pigeon.
Pedro was a dedicated physician and surgeon for over thirty years in Pigeon, Michigan, where he served his patients with profound compassion and unwavering humility. Beloved by colleagues and patients, Doc always extended his warm heart, embodying the true essence of care and healing. Pedro carried a gentle and kind spirit that touched everyone he met; those closest to him will never forget his quick wit and youthful demeanor.
He will be forever missed by the love of his life, Irene, children Peter (Jenny Tsang), Robert, and Nicole (James Kastelic), brother Sergio Alberto (Flor) Ruiz de Castilla Urrunaga, sister-in-law Marie Nicholl, brother-in-law Patrick (Shelly) Nicholl, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters Rosa Victoria (Luis) Ruiz de Castilla Urrunaga de Luza and Blanca Luz (Roberto) Ruiz de Castilla Urrunaga de Patiño.
We will miss you beyond words.
