Richie was born on September 25, 1943, to Joseph and Caroline (Cogliano) Nappi, and grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved to reminisce about Sunday dinners and holiday celebrations with the entire family around the table. Richie attended Boys High and after graduation went on to the New York Institute of Technology where he earned a B.S. in Accounting. In 1966, during some very tumultuous times, he was called upon to serve his country and was proud of the time he spent in the United States Army as a Private First Class.
He always had a head for business and was an entrepreneur with exceptional negotiation skills who dabbled in many professions throughout his working years. Richie let everyone know that he was an Italian American from Brooklyn. He would roar with laughter and say that only in America could a kid from a 3-room railroad apartment work his way into a life of country clubs, sailboats, and sports cars.
Richie raised his family in Douglaston Manor and in 1994 made the move to South Florida. He loved being in Florida, spending time in the sun, at the beach, and in the pool, but remained a New Yorker at heart and never lost a touch of his accent. He was an avid sports fan, playing them when he was younger and watching as a spectator in his later years. Richie had a love-hate relationship with both the New York Giants and New York Yankees. In his Florida years, he watched the games religiously and could be heard screaming at the TV from down the street.
He always said he was fortunate to have been loved by two amazing women, first Carolyn (Titello) Nappi from 1966 until her passing in 2001, then Jan (Silver) Nappi who was by his side from 2004 until he took his last breath.
Richie is survived by his wife Jan Nappi, his daughter Jennifer Nappi, his son Joseph (Rochelle) Nappi, and his pride and joy, his granddaughter Sara Carolyn Nappi. He will also be dearly missed by his kids in Canada, Sonia West, Noah (Cecilia) West, and the grandkids there who brought him immense joy, Dreden, Aaliyah, and Joshua.
He was a larger-than-life kind of guy and will be profoundly missed and well-remembered by all who knew him.
