Richard “Buzz” Welsh, 58, of Boca Raton FL passed away on September 19, 2015 in the comfort of his home. “Buzz”, as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was given this nickname by his mother when he was born on November 21, 1956. He grew up in Fort Salonga, on Long Island, NY. He graduated Kings Park High School in 1974 and attended Assumption College in Worcester, Mass.
Buzz was a Chef and Caterer by trade. In the 1980’s he owned and operated Edibles Marketplace on Las Olas Avenue in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. He then transitioned into catering in the 1990’s, when he and a partner opened Regency Events, an extremely successful catering company. At the height of his career, Regency Events was catering 1,000 events a year, for many prominent customers. The Company earned the nickname “Caterer to the Stars".
During gatherings with family and friends, Buzz's cooking was always the highlight of the event. His love for cooking was evidenced by his unique flare to enhance recipes, making them his own. Buzz had a gift to know what people really loved to eat (ribs anyone?).
In recent years he shared his love of cooking by volunteering his time in the kitchen at Boca Helping Hands; a local food bank in Boca Raton, FL. He enjoyed the challenge of creating wonderful meals from the donated food at hand. He also enjoyed serving and interacting with our local community.
Buzz has made South Florida his home for the past 28 years and shared the last eight years with his loving wife, Jennifer.
Buzz is survived by Jennifer, and his children Ashley, Whitney, Cullen and his stepson, Logan. He was also blessed to be a grandfather to Aubree. In addition, he is survived by his siblings; Lisa, Doug (Joey), Kara (Ian), Craig (Heather) and many nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Boca Helping Hands www.bocahelpinghands.org/donate or the American Heart Association donatenow.heart.org/
