I remember well my introduction to the Grady Family.  It was my first liberty from the USMMA at Kings Point NY. I had arranged a DATE with her younger sister. And each Sister came to the front door. Each said that she had no date planned. They shut the front door and shooed down the stairs. After a tense 20 minutes my date came down the front stairs and we both walked away.  We stayed together until Franny’s death 49 years later.

My most vivid memories of Aunt Rody and the Winrows were when we visited the Winrow house in Rutherford while we were growing up.  There was so much love and fun, it was always a great time.  I would travel from one place to another to one floor and another passing one or another of the Matrisciano-Winrow crew (including Nanny Winrow) as I moved from interesting activity to interesting activity.

In later years, despite time, life, and distance separing us more, the love was and still is there.  Jilly was our most active ambassador to the Winrow and the rest of the extended crew as she has usually been.  We were always kept in the loop on the Winrows' goings on and goings on with other parts of the family.  That’s always been Jilly’s specialty.  I just remember hearing about so many things through Jilly about children, grandchildren and beyond, it was tough to keep up.

We were thrilled to see all of the great photos on this site, and while Aunt Rody and all of the rest of us have changed over the years, in recent years Aunt Rody was clearly as warm, beautiful, and soulful as she and all of the Grady Girls have always been.

We love you Aunt Rody and are saddened by the loss of another one of our extended crew.  But as Mom has said, we’ll meet again.  I figure it may be like in the photos with the huge extended crew gathered at someone’s place and just having fun, love, and joy.

(Part 1) From All the Matriscianos…..by Justin

Dear Aunt Rody and the Winrows,

We are so sad to hear about the passing of one of our beloved “Grady Girls.”

Aunt Kerel, Aunt Joanie, Aunt Rody, and Aunt Frannie.

While we couldn’t love anyone more than our beloved Mom, Kathleen Joan (Grady Matrisciano), I always thought it was fascinating how being with Aunt Kerel, Aunt Rody, or Aunt Frannie felt just like being with Mom.  They were clearly cut from the same quality cloth and were brought up with great love and devotion by their Mom and Dad (James Grady and Kathleen Grady).  Of note, there’s at least one photo posted on this site with the 4 Grady Girls.

So the passing of any one of the Grady Girls hurts as much as the passing of the others.  Mom, who is the last Grady Girl in this world wishes “Love to my beloved sister. We’ll all be together again one day.”

I recall being so equally comfortable and happy being with Uncle Herbie, Aunt Kerel, Uncle June, Aunt Rody, Uncle Wayne, Aunt Frannie, and the rest of the Winrows and Kochs.  They all seemed very interchangeable to me.  I guess it was all the “Grady Girl” connection.  We loved them all and loved being with them all, though time and distance limited this a great deal.  Yes, we all remember the photos with the whole extended Winrow-Hayford-Koch-Matrisciano crew at someone’s house for some gathering many years ago.  To me this was always like a fun game of figuring out “who’s who” from the crew.

Of course I had a special place in my heart for Aunt Rody because, among other things, we shared a mutual November 13th birthday.  My Mom called Aunt Rody after I was born (about 12:15 AM on November 13th, 1968) to tell her the baby was born on her birthday.

My heart is with you, Jackie and Tracy. Rosemarie was such a sweet and loving soul, and her warmth touched everyone who knew her. Her love will always be a part of you, and I hope you feel her gentle presence close by. I’m here for you always. ❤️

Aunt Maryann and Uncle Rich

    So many childhood memories with your Mom and Family.   I remember the Family trip to Lancaster, Dutch Wonderland,  the Highland Lakes cabin, and every Holiday together.   Our Parents water fight on Montross, and all the BBQ's with our Families. 
     Your Mom was always wore a smile.   She will certainly be missed.    They are all waiting for her, and can see my Mom saying to her "What took you so long?"    
        Those memories will always be with us.   Love you all so much.

Will always remember breaking my leg on Memorial Day 1971 at a barbecue at Aunt Rhody and Uncle Charlie’s place on Montross Ave in Rutherford. Aunt Rhody sprung into action with her nursing expertise to fashion a leg splint and they tossed me into their Toyota station wagon to bring me to the hospital. I will never forget that day as long as I live. Rest in peace Aunt Rhody, love, “Filbert”.
