Sara was born on June 16, 1926 in Huntington, Indiana where she was raised. Sara was a resident of Boca Raton for 30 years, resident of Tallahassee, FL for 27 years, resident of Ann Arbor, MI for 5 years, and resident of Chicago, IL for 3 years. She was married to Florida State University Professor, Dr Byron G. Massialas for 41 years who passed away in 2011.
Sara was involved in the Florida State University wives’ organization as well as raising her two sons George and James who were involved in many different sports and activities growing up in Killearn Estates Golf & Country Club of Tallahassee. Sara was honored many times as a Gourmet Cook with notable dishes of Greek cuisine and was featured with one of her specialty desserts in the Tallahassee Democrat. She was also very involved with the local Greek Orthodox Church. Sara was awarded the “Best Cheering Mother” for her two sons on the Killearn Swim Team in Tallahassee.
In her early years living in Indiana, Sara was employed by Indiana University – School of Music as assistant to the College Dean while her husband obtained his PhD.
Sara also enjoyed travelling around the world with her family to places such as Greece, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Yugoslavia, France, England, Canada, Egypt, Lebanon, Jamaica, Turkey, Cyprus, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Syria.
Sara is survived by her two sons George, James and wife Suzi, and grandson Nikolas all of Boca Raton, Florida.
Sara’s final resting place will be at Boca Raton Cemetery.
