Valerie Dolly Diana Bloch

She attended Hempstead High School where she met her future husband Odd Bloch, while selling tickets to a dance (He said he would buy one if she went with him). They dated during High School and during WWII. Valerie moved to Florida with her parents and she worked at the Air Base where FAU is now. Odd and Valerie were married in Daytona Beach, Florida on September 14th, 1946 (63 years ago). They drove to the high desert in California for their honeymoon in a 1939 LaSalle with two possessions, a Cocker Spaniel Puppy and a Lamp. Her husband, First Lieutenant Odd Bloch, a Test Pilot was stationed there in the Army Air Corps. When her husband left the service she put him through school working as a legal secretary and she earned a PHT (Pushing Hubby Through). When he started a career as an Engineer at IBM, she gave up her career and became a stay at home mom for her two sons, Doug and Darryl. Valerie made a home for her family in Wappingers Falls, New York, Woodstock, New York and finally settled down in Boca Raton, Florida in the late 1960's.

She loved her husband and her boys but always wanted a daughter. She got her wish with two daughters (in-law) Paula and Sue, five grandaughters, Annika, Sonja, Kristen, Kelsey, Kari and a much loved grandson, Darek.

She was a lifelong member of Advent Lutheran Church where she also worked as a secretary when her kids had grown up.

She was never too busy to stop and talk to everyone and always had a smile for all her friends and family. She will always be missed and never forgotten by all who knew her.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Advent Lutheran Church in Boca Raton from 10:00-11:30 am. Funeral services will be conducted immediately afterwards by the Rev. Dr. Ronald Dingle. A commital service will be held at 1:30 PM at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449. A small gathering with refreshments will be held at Advent from 3-4 PM.
