Alice Meng was born on September 21, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Shirley and George Gee and passed away on April 12, 2026 after a brief illness. She leaves behind a legacy of caring and compassion -- spending a lifetime caring for others.
Alice spent most of her professional career as a social worker and mental health administrator in suburban Detroit. She dedicated her professional life to helping those in her community get the support and care they needed to live their fullest and best lives. She was also proud of, and grateful for, her marriage to John. For 40 years, Alice and John shared a deep partnership and enduring love. Through every season of life, they remained each other’s greatest support and constant companions.
She leaves behind two sons, George and Patrick. Raising them for a time as a single, working mother, Alice instilled upon her sons the value and importance of strong women. She was not only proud of her sons and the men they became, she was also proud of and loved the amazing women they married: George's wife Sharon and Patrick's wife Tricia. The role she embraced the most, with every ounce of her heart, was being grandmother to George's and Sharon's sons, Tyler and Logan. Leaving them with memories of a "Mimi" who loved them immeasurably.
To Alice, a house was never truly a home without the patter of paws. She spent many years in retirement working with local animal shelters and those who knew her later in life, knew to expect a house full of dogs when they visited. Her dogs were her shadows and her constant source of comfort. Whether she was out for a walk or relaxing at home, she was happiest with a loyal dog (or several) by her side. Her compassion for her furry companions was a beautiful reflection of her kind soul.
Alice is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, John; her son George Gallagher and daughter-in-law Sharon, along their two sons, Tyler and Logan; and her son Patrick Gallagher and daughter-in-law Tricia. She also leaves behind her brother Michael Gee and sister Laurie Murray and their families. Finally, she is survived by her beloved dogs and a community of friends who will miss her dearly.
