

He was born on August 31, 1942 and was son of the late Walter and Ruth Richardson. Jay was a Christian worker for the Lord and helped build many churches. For 25 years, Jay was the owner of a construction company. He loved playing guitar, restoring old cars, feeding birds, traveling and was an avid mountain person. But most of all, Jay loved his family.
In addition to his parents, Jay is predeceased by his son, Jeff Richardson; daughter, Debbie Helms; brothers, Allen Richardson, John Richardson, Roger Richardson; and sisters, Betty Lou Jones and Erma Dean Graybeal.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Richardson, of the home; sons, Chris Helms, of New London, NC, Torry Helms, of Cherryville, NC; daughter, Diane Smith, of Catawba, NC; brother, Bill Richardson, of Gastonia, NC; sister, Nancy Eldreth, of North Wilkesboro, NC; twelve grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson, NC and will be officiated by Rev. Brad Bullard.
Pallbearers will be Avery Clemmons, Larry Richardson, Anthony Horn, Jordan Smith, Dylan Mellon and Brad Bullard.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from six until eight o’clock in the evening at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 603 Ocean Highway East, Bolivia, NC.
