
Mack Leon Hewett, of Shallotte, NC, widower of Edith Eloise Parrish Hewett, passed away on November 2, 2011 in Wilmington, NC. He was born on July 31, 1920 in Shallotte to Mattie Ruth and Warren Winslow Hewett. He married Eloise on March 20, 1949, and they were married for fifty-four years before her death in 2003. Mr. Hewett is survived by his four children, Jacquelyn Robinson and her husband, Darryle; Mack Hewett, junior, and his wife, Laura; David Hewett and his wife, Cindy; and Amy Tanner and her husband, Jeffrey. Mack also leaves his grandchildren, Elisabeth Hunter, Annabelle Carter, Robbie Robinson, Zachary Hewett, Ian Hewett, Parker Tanner, Sam Tanner, Mattie Eloise Tanner, and Mack Hewett III. Two great-grandchildren survive him, Oliver Carter and Henry Hunter.
Mr. Hewett was retired from the United States Air Force, having proudly served his country for twenty-seven years. He entered the service shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and fought in both World War II and the Korean War.
Funeral services with military honors for Mr. Hewett will be held at the graveside at Jennies Branch Baptist Church, Hwy 179/Ocean Isle Beach Drive at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 4, 2011. The family will receive friends directly after the service in the foyer of the church. Dr. Jim Everette III will be the presiding pastor. Memorials may be sent to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice – Brunswick Care Center Campaign.
