Malissa Morgan Ferrell Barnes passed on April 5, 2026, at the age of 65. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 5, 1960, and was the daughter of the late John Junior Morgan and Mary Taylor Morgan. Malissa lived in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Malissa was accountant and bookkeeper for many years working with Habitat for Humanity and Taylor's Nursery. She was also a caretaker for the elderly.
There aren't enough pages in which to write nor ink to write with nor breaths to speak the acknowledgements Malissa Morgan Ferrell Barnes deserves to be honored with on this celebration of her life. She is a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother, cousin and friend. She was a caretaker to all that surrounded her. With an unshakeable faith that she shared with the ones closest to her she was a dedicated matriarch of all the families that were blessed to have her. She was a beacon of light in dark times and a pillar of strength to the weary. She was an anchor for all around her in the turbulent sea of life.
Lisa was an organized family oriented individual with a love that is unmeasurable for the people and animals in her life. From high speed delivery to slow cooked comfort food she did it all with her own unique style that is uncomparable. A deep rooted love amplified from within her beautiful soul showering all those around her.
She has departed from us here to see the loved ones that have preceded us. They have been patiently waiting on her. There are many of them and they are very happy at this time. There she too will be happily waiting for us. We wish her farewell on her journey. She will be missed and we will continue to love as she has loved in her memory.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Craig Barnes, Sr. of the home; her children, Thomas Madison Ferrell and wife Molly Ann of Leland, Crystal Ann Butler of Raleigh, Jennifer Jaunice and Dan Watson of Wilmington, Joseph Craig Barnes, Jr. of Wilmington, Joseph Bryan Barnes and wife Vanessa of Maryland, Joseph Austin Barnes and wife Haven Arlee of Wilmington, Joseph Zachary Barnes of Wilmington and Marissa Del Carmen Barnes of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Lindsay, Chase, Katie, Cora, Bella, Avery and Chance; a sister, Maticha Morgan Cook of Wilmington and her fur babies, Toby and Riley. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Tommy Ferrell, a brother, Gary Steven Morgan and a sister, Malinda Kay Morgan.
A time of visitation and celebration will be held Saturday afternoon April 11, 2026 from two o'clock until six o'clock at the home of Thomas and Molly Ferrell located at 1525 Bluff Drive NE Leland, NC .
