

Velma was born to Ella Mae Mobley and Vernon Mobley on May 28, 1949 in Brunswick County, North Carolina. Velma was the eldest girl of 13 siblings. Velma met the love of her life, Herbert M. Johnson Jr, in 1969 and after 28 days of courting, entered into a marriage that lasted 46 years. Velma displayed the unique qualities listed in the Book of Proverbs that made her successful in becoming a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Velma belonged to Living Word Pentecostal Church and loved serving The Lord through mission work throughout the world as well as within her community. Velma used her gift of encouragement to lift others up and made everyone feel special. Her smile could light up a room and people knew that she loved them just by the twinkle in her eyes.
Velma is survived by her loving husband, Herbert Johnson Jr., four children; James Mobley (Stephanie), Jean Osborne (Ronnie), Lisa Rabon, and Tanya Madden (John), ten grandchildren; Ashley Madden, Lauren Britton, Michael McCoy, Samuel Rabon, Caitlin Madden, Sara Rabon, Brittany Barnette, Kenneth Madden, Charles Madden, and Joseph Madden; one great grandchild, Auria Hall. Velma is further survived by eight siblings and a multitude of nephews and nieces whom she loved very much. She was predeceased by both of her parents and five siblings.
Velma's Celebration of Life Ceremony will begin 6:30pm on Friday, July 24 with a 1hr visitation and continue into the memorial service after the visitation at White Funeral Services in Supply, NC.
