

Born in Ash, North Carolina on the twenty seventh of February, 1932, he was a son of the late Walter Raleigh and Amanda Caroline Phelps Babson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife Mary O. Babson and a son Joel Kent Babson.
Jervie was a graduate of Waccamaw High School and Wilmington College. He went to work for DuPont and retired after a fruitful career of twenty-five years of service. He was also retired from the NC Army National Guard as a Sergeant First Class after twenty-nine years of service. Jervie was a longtime member of Town Creek Baptist Church as well as a past master of Orient Lodge # 395 where he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Sudan Shriner. He was a member of the National Sojourners, Classic Car Club of Wilmington and was a published author of his poems. While active in many things he loved to sing and recorded a song with his quartet, he organized a Law Enforcement Appreciation Parade in 2015 and 2016. He had a very outgoing personality and seemed to never meet a stranger; He will be fondly remembered as the “Candyman” at his church for giving away candy for over twenty years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Johnson Babson; children, Jeff and wife Diane Babson of Richmond, VA, Janet B. Seal and fiancée Chris Bellamy of Wilmington, NC, John and wife Danette Babson of Wilmington, NC, Charles and wife Kellie Babson of Wake Forest, NC, Yolanda and husband Scot Finkbeiner of Manning, SC; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his siblings, Luella Hilburn of Stone Mountain, GA, Delray and wife Hilda Babson of Zachary, LA, Hyton and wife Lillian Babson of Wilmington, NC, Melva Jean Sibilia of Tarpon Springs, FL. Also surviving are his extended Johnson step-family of Van Johnson and wife Pam of Supply, Terri Mercer of Leland, Cheryl Herring of Winnabow, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday the tenth day of July, 2016 in the Town Creek Baptist Church with The Reverend V.C. Potter, Jr. officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Saturday at White Funeral & Cremation Service, Bolivia/Supply Chapel.
