Aaron Joshua “AJ” Reyes entered eternal rest on Christmas morning 2025 at just 17 years old, following a courageous battle with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. Born on September 9, 2008, in Las Vegas, AJ brought laughter, light, and an unforgettable spirit everywhere he went. His goofy humor, infectious smile, love for his friends, and deep passion for basketball made him a joy to all who knew him.
AJ is survived by his loving parents, Pearson and Arlen; his sister, Alyssa; his grandparents Pete and Linda, and Lolita; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom he shared close bonds. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Rodrigo Abengoza. His loyal English bulldog, Bosa, also deeply misses him.
Throughout his life, AJ was naturally athletic and curious, trying nearly every sport/activity—flag football, baseball, taekwondo, jujitsu, skiing, paddle boarding and boxing—before ultimately discovering his true love: basketball. Once he found the game, he committed himself wholeheartedly. He spent countless hours in the gym refining his skills alongside his friends and coaches, and he participated in numerous workshops and camps to strengthen his craft. AJ proudly played for Eastlake High School and several travel teams, including South Bay Bulls, Making Pros, SD Republic, Southeast Kings, and SD FilAm.
AJ embraced life with an adventurous spirit. He loved finding scenic spots for great photos, seeking out good food (the better the deal, the happier he was), and sharing experiences with the people he cared about most. He also treasured his time working at Ululani’s, the beloved Hawaiian shave ice shop, where the aloha atmosphere felt like a second home.
Friendship was one of AJ’s greatest sources of strength. He adored his friends—far too many to list—and they stood by him with unwavering support during his illness. Their loyalty, presence, and love meant everything to him, and he drew energy from every moment spent with them.
AJ dreamed of attending San Diego State University to study Kinesiology, hoping one day to pursue a career in sports physical therapy. His ambition reflected both his passion for athletics and his desire to help others.
AJ’s passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, and all whose lives he touched. We ask that he be remembered not for how his life ended, but for how beautifully he lived it—and for the lasting impact he made.
AJ will forever stand in our hearts as a symbol of strength, resilience, compassion, and love. Though we mourn his absence daily, we find comfort in knowing we will be reunited in time.
We love you, AJ.
