Vietnam Veteran
It is with deep sadness and profound sorrow that we share the news of Arsenio Columna Vinzon, Jr., a beloved father, a devoted husband, and proud United States Navy veteran, peacefully passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 90, in Chula Vista, CA.
Known as Totie by many, was born in 1935, to Arsenio P. Vinzon Sr. and Consolacion C. Vinzon. He was second to the eldest and grew up with six other siblings in General Trias, Cavite, Philippines. This is where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family.
Born with an unwavering sense of duty, Arsenio enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Subic Naval Base, Philippines in December 1953, embarking on a 20-year journey of honorable and courageous service to his country. He completed boot camp at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California, and went on to serve aboard several combatant naval warships, including the USS Glacier (AGB-4), USS Cromwell (DD-651), USS Orleck (DD-886), and USS Mansfield (DD-728). His sea duty took him across the globe, including service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
In November 1970, Arsenio reported to his final duty station at Naval Air Station Glenview, Illinois, before retiring in December 1973. Throughout his distinguished career, he embodied the highest ideals of military service, earning numerous commendations, including Navy Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Combat Action Ribbon (Vietnam War), Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (10 Stars), National Defense Service Medal (1 Star), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (with 1960 Bar device), Antarctica Service Medal Ribbon, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korean War).
A quiet hero, Arsenio carried the weight of war and sacrifice with humility and grace. He was a proud Filipino-American whose devotion to family was only matched by his loyalty to the Navy and the country he served.
In retirement, Arsenio remained a pillar of strength and integrity for his family. His wisdom, humor, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A loving husband to his late wife, Lourdes of 64 years, together they raised four wonderful children: Reynaldo, Wilberto, Ferdinand, and Catherine. He was a devoted father, always there to offer guidance, and love. He cherished family gatherings, having meals together at the table as well as cooking American dishes for his family and friends. He enjoyed reading the newspaper while drinking his coffee in the morning, loved listening to music, and watched comedy sitcoms or the local news. He also loved dancing with Lourdes during events or occasions whether it’s cha-cha, waltz, boogie, or slow dance.
He is survived by his four children: Reynaldo (Josephine), Wilberto (Cecile), Ferdinand (Susan), and Catherine (Corey); nine grandchildren: Michael (Kathleen), Christopher, Carl, Craig (Marygrace), Charlene, Charmane, Sean, Stephen, and Zach; three great grandchildren: Mikayla, Kaleia, Miya; his two siblings Aurora and Virgilio.
