

Born on August 8, 1946, in Cavite City, Philippines, Ben lived a life defined by dedication to family, faith, and service. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War and later continued his commitment to his country through a career in civil service.
Ben’s service took him and his family around the world living and thriving in many places throughout his life—including the Philippines, Pensacola (FL), Naples (Italy), Norfolk (VA), and ultimately San Diego, California—bringing his warmth and sense of humor to every community he touched.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosario Olores Martinez, and his five children: Glenn Martinez, Jane Slikker, Melanie Barbosa, Joan Martinez, and Robert Martinez.
He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Isabel Barbosa, Isaac Barbosa, Lorenzo Polanco, Benjamin Slikker, Zakai Rattanasinh, Ahnjali Rattanasinh, Olivia Martinez Levi Martinez.
Ben will be remembered for the joy he found in sharing stories and spending time with his Wife, his Children, Grandchildren, and Friends. He could often be found laughing and having a cup of coffee in his community. He was guided in his life by his deep Catholic faith. He regularly attended services at St. Mary’s Church in National City.
Services
A vigil will be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park – Chapel of the Roses.
The Funeral Mass will follow on Wednesday, June 25, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in National City.
Interment will take place at Miramar National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 25, at 1:15 PM with full Military Honors.
All services are open to friends and loved ones who wish to honor Ben’s memory.
