Bernard R. Gutierrez, 64, of San Diego, California, passed away surrounded by all four of his children, fiancée, and family on October 11, 2025. He was born on December 4, 1960, in Whidbey Island, Washington, to Dominador and Constance Gutierrez, the second of seven children.
Bernard was a loving man who lived life with laughter, faith, and an open heart. He loved traveling, especially to the Hawaiian Islands, listening to live music, dancing, enjoying good food, and spending time with his family. His sense of humor and one-liners could light up any room, and he was known for making everyone laugh.
He was devoted to serving the Lord and his family with everything in him. Despite the complexities of life and family, Bernard’s love was steady, forgiving, and full. He cherished every one of his children and grandchildren deeply and prayed that they would always walk in faith and know the Lord as he did.
Bernard is survived by his four loving children: Christine “CJ” (Gutierrez) Hyatt, Christopher M. Gutierrez, Vanessa Leilani G. Gutierrez, and Valerie Malea G. Gutierrez; and by his five beloved grandchildren: Evelyn A. Hyatt, Lea G. Hyatt, Maus “M” Hyatt, Keanu R. Gutierrez, and Hayden C. Gutierrez. He is also survived by his fiancée, Judy Saliwan, and his six siblings.
He was previously married to Bernadine Cruz and to Myra Gojuangco, and he continued to hold love and respect for both. His life was a testament to joy, resilience, and the grace of unconditional love.
