Colleen Doria, born March 9, 1957 in Phoenix, Arizona passed away August 10, 2015 of cancer in Chula Vista, California. Colleen fought a valiant two year battle and was surrounded by family as she peacefully transitioned into the next life.
Colleen is the oldest daughter of George Neil and Willadean McRae. The family moved to Indio, California in 1965. Early life with three brothers Rande, Ty & Bret and two sisters, Keri and Marnie, was full of adventure, travel and the wonder of growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. Colleen was fully involved in her church youth group, high school color guard and always had a large circle of friends around her. She graduated from Indio High School in 1975 and later attended College of the Desert and Brigham Young University.
Colleen married Jose Reynaldo Doria, March 12, 1977 in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Indio, Montclair and Riverside until 1990 and later moved to Chula Vista where Jose opened a new State Farm agency. At that time they had four children ranging from ages 2 to 11 years old.
Colleen’s pride and joy and main joy in life were her children, Gina, Alex, Aaron, Andrea and Dillon and six grandchildren she and Jose now have. Her devotion led her to be involved in every aspect of her children’s lives, whether it was serving in the children’s schools, the PTA’s, doing fund raising, traveling, camping, attending an endless variety of ball games or outings to the beach. She made sure the children all graduated from college, were involved in volunteering and her sons earned their Eagle Scout awards. All the family has fond memories of family vacations to Cancun, Baja and Hawaii. She was such a beloved exquisite mother and her children are eternally grateful for how special she made their lives.
Colleen’s second joy was helping and serving her friends, neighbors and church family. She served in many ways as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as Relief Society president and an early morning seminary teacher. She has made lifetime friends in the church she loved. Always seeking opportunities to help others was something she prided herself in and she always made time to make delicious cookies for others and hosted wonderful dinner parties and BBQ’s for friends.
Surviving her are her beloved Jose, children Gina (Danny) Velasco, Alex, Aaron (Hillary), Andrea and Dillon and grandchildren Blaze, Bella, Maxim, Elias, Cassius and newborn Jack Aaron. She is also survived by her parents Neil and Willadean and siblings Rande, Ty, Bret, Keri & Marnie, their spouses, brothers and sisters- in- law as well as over 85 nieces and nephews and cousins throughout the Southwest.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015, 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel on 1590 East H Street in Chula Vista conducted by Glen Abbey funeral service.
