Connie Braun, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, in Chula Vista, California. She was born on December 15, 1932, in Platte Center, Nebraska, the third of eight children to Raymond and Violet Melcher. In 1945, her family relocated to California, where Connie graduated from Wasco High School in the San Joaquin Valley, Class of 1949.
In 1953, Connie graduated from Mercy College of Nursing in San Diego and became a Registered Nurse. She began her career in surgical nursing, working at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1955. As a First Lieutenant, she served at the Hamilton Air Force Base Hospital in Northern California until 1957.
Connie met Tim Braun in Bakersfield, CA in 1959. At the time, she was working as a surgical scrub nurse at Mercy Hospital, and Tim was a sales representative for Standard Oil/Chevron Corporation. The two were married at St Francis Church, on February 27, 1960, beginning a partnership that would last 58 years.
While raising their four children, Connie continued her nursing career and later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business. She also retained a real estate license in Arizona.
In 1974, Connie and Tim made their home in Yuma, Arizona, where they became owners of Agro Phosphate Co. Over the next 43 years, they were involved and active members of the Yuma Community, volunteering their time and talents in various ways, together.
Connie moved to Chula Vista in 2018, where she enjoyed living in an assisted living community. She was an enthusiastic member of Toastmasters International for many years and enjoyed writing stories, aerobics, and playing bridge.
Connie is survived by her son George Braun, daughters Veronica Worthington and Alice Boyer, and grandchildren Sydney and Sean Boyer. Connie was preceded by her husband, Timothy Braun, and son, Robert Braun.
Services:
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Glenn Abbey Memorial Park.
A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 9:00am in the Little Chapel of Roses at Glenn Abbey Park. Burial services will follow at 11:15am at Miramar National Cemetery.
