While it is possible to receive good counsel from a wide circle of family and friends, few could do it with the skill and aptitude of Cyrus Jay Protacio Carr. He had a true talent for helping others reach their full potential and brought out the best in those who sought his help. Cy was a forward-looking boy whose personality was filled with empathy toward everyone he met. He could be quiet and reserved, but his style of communication was authentic and direct. An excellent communicator, Cy was a master at using imagery when he explained his ideas and concepts. He seemed to have an endless supply of innovative concepts and strategies for how to help those around him. His sensitivity, kindness and generous attitude made him a wonderful friend for all who knew him.
From the time he was born on September 24, 2007, Cy showed a genuine love and concern for all his family. All who knew him could always see his eyes light up when his mom entered the room. He loved his family very much but he had a special place in his heart for his mother. He was a giving and caring individual, ethical and full of integrity and warmth. Cy came into this world at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. His parents were Brandonn and Ruby Jean. Cy was raised in San Diego.
Because fellowship with family was so important to him, Cy promoted harmony amongst his parents and older sibling. He had one older sister, Eylana-Mae. Cy was something of the family diplomat. He helped to settle problems and conflicts and kept the family running smoothly. He reminded everyone not to sweat the small stuff and to always be happy.
As a young boy, Cy interacted well with other children. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a vivid imagination. Cy had a number of interests in his youth. He was an active child and took part in hiking, biking, in-line skating, eskrima, and loved body boarding at the beach. He was a proud INC Kid and strong in his faith. He was also a student of Pulahan Derobio Eskrima where he enjoyed sparring with his friends. He really loved the beach, but when it was too hot he loved to play minecraft with his sister. Drawing and sharing his artwork was also something that meant a lot to him. Cyrus' memorable achievements included earning an Eskrima Yellow Belt and Black Belt. When he became ill he spent most of his time at the hospital but made sure to share his artwork with the other kids because it was so important to him to show his loving concern for others.
Cyrus was a phenomenal student and enthusiastic about learning, always well mannered and very considerate of others. He enjoyed some classes more than others but was happy learning every subject. The teachers he enjoyed learning from the most were Mrs. Jennifer Smart, Mrs. Margarita Idos, Mrs. Bonnie Wells, and Mr. Randy Perez because they were amazing thinkers and loved teaching Cyrus. He will always be remembered for his deep imagination, wonderful smile, beautiful eyes, kind heartedness, and desire to always complete every task ahead of schedule.
Able to maintain a positive focus on the potential good to be found in others, Cy was always ready with solid advice and guidance to offer his sister. He was generally friendly to all who knew him, yet to some he seemed quite independent. For those who really knew Cy, they recognized that he could be full of surprises. Cy enjoyed a small but solid group of true friends. He would willingly support those friends when they needed it. Because of his ability to read people, he had an uncanny knack for knowing who to trust. While growing up, some of his very best friends were Lana, Caitlyn, Isaac, Max, Zack, Ethan, Cayden, Tristan, Marcus and Leo. He and his sister, Lana, were always the best of friends even though they didn't always get along. He looked up to her and always wished for her to do well.
As an imaginative and inventive person, Cy was comfortable showing his creative spirit. He enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Once Cy took on a new project, he saw it through to its completion. His favorite pursuits were drawing, building star wars and ninjago legos, stop motion art, claymation, origami, shooting silly string at his dad and Uncle Jeremy, watching America's Got Talent, and following some of his favorite YouTubers (DanTDM and iBallisticSquid). He was content to enjoy most of his hobbies alone but was always willing to share his interests with those closest to him.
Cy was still very young but upheld clear convictions and high principles, and his faith was important to him. He was an inspiration to many people who recognized his faith, sense of commitment and esteem for others. He was a proud member of the Church of Christ (Iglesia Ni Cristo).
Cy was a lover of all animals and cherished his pets. One of Cy's favorites was Buddy, a Jack Russel/Chihuahua. They respected one another's space and although they never really cuddled they were still very close for 7 years.
Cy passed away at 8:24a.m. on November 17, 2017 at Rady Children's Hospital where he courageously fought hard against relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukemia. And although he endured so much pain and sadness he could always squeeze out a warm loving smile for the ones he loved so dearly. He had a gentle soul but a spirit of a warrior. His family couldn't be more proud and thankful of him for all his patience and determination to push through every obstacle. Cyrus did not lose his battle. He rightfully won his race and waits at the finish line for his family. He has forever earned a place in Heaven, spared by the grace of God to no longer suffer the pains of this world. He is survived by his father and mother, Brandonn and Ruby Jean, and his older sister, Eylana-Mae. Services will be held at Glen Abbey and the Miramar National Cemetery where Cyrus will be laid to rest.
Though he could be a private person at times, Cy was always able and willing to give of himself. He was so in tune with others that he often seemed able to read their minds. Cy carried with him an almost mystical sense of life. He was a person who was highly original in his thinking and used metaphors and symbols to describe many aspects of his life. A poetic, intuitive "teacher", Cyrus Jay Protacio Carr shared himself freely and family and friends will remember Cy for the strength of his convictions. There are no words to express how deeply he'll be missed and forever loved. Until we meet again oh sweet son. We promise to work hard to be together again, God willing. We love you so much Cyrus!
