Lic. Eduardo Medina Gonzalez

Eduardo was born in Mexico City, Mexico on August 8, 1953. At age 3 the family moved to Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico where he resided the greater part of his life. His father was Fortino Medina Santacruz, his mother Aurora Gonzalez Vargas. He is one of seven children: Maria Eugenia, Martha, Eduardo, Fortino, Juan, Maria Concepcion and Rafael

I remember him reminiscing about his childhood days. He and his sister Martha and later his brother Fortino just children, sold newspapers, tacos, burritos and whatever else to help with family expenses. Together with their dad they went to the border to sell their food to daily commuters.

Later his father decided to start a family business, manufacturing plaster curios. It was laborious work, but it paid the bills. Eduardo would say it was very hard work making regular delivery trips to Los Angeles while all the time listening to pre-recorded school assignments. He tried equally as hard not to miss any assignments. All his hard work paid off when he graduated with honors.

He studied at the University of Baja California. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration in the year 1981. He received a unanimous decision from the Board of Tribunal Examiners of thesis. He later became a “Sinodal” a Tribunal Examiner. After graduation he was offered a position as Professor of Cost Accounting which he accepted. He wrote a book on Cost Accounting which was used for several years as a text book. There are still copies in the university library. At this time he was also a professor at a private university CETYS, one of the top higher education schools. He was very well respected as a professor and colleague.

From the time we met I remember him constantly studying and memorizing important information needed for his job. Many will remember him with a book or two under his arm. I remember him telling me he had memorized the greater part of business law books! He was gifted with a photographic memory. He was proficient in many subjects related to accounting and civil law.

He retired from teaching to work hands on in cost accounting at PAGASA, a pasta and cookie factory. He worked there approximately 24 years and retired in 2007.

After retirement he did try to write another book, but by this time his health was failing him.

After the death of his mother-in-law he over saw the reparation of her home, by this time he was gravely ill. He was hospitalized and diagnosed with a cancerous kidney tumor. The tumor was removed, he had no further treatment per his decision.

Eduardo was known as the great debater. He participated in many Debate Contests, the following are the honors received.

His brother Fortino remembers his brother’s love of poetry. I remember him as an ardent reader. His day’s duties were to update his computer and notify his friends of day’s happenings…the stock market and the value of the peso. His computer was now indispensable. He was on the computer approximately 10 to 12 hours daily. He was always researching and compiling information. He was now his friends Wikipedia! His brother remembers him also as a prolific reader as well as a spiritual person.

It’s with profound gratitude that I Armida Manzo-Medina and family thank each and every one of you for your thoughtfulness, prayers and immeasurable show of affection. He will be missed, may he rest in peace in God’s paradise until we meet again.

One poem which was his favorite and recited often was

“IF” by Rudyard Kipling.

Eduardo fue una persona tranquila y reservada. Fue una persona con sus costumbres y personalidad introvertido. Su pasion era su profesion en Acontabilidad.

Eduardo nacio en la capital de Mexico. El 8 de Agosto, 1953. A los 3 anos la familia se mudo a Tijuana, Baja CA donde vivio la mayoria de su vida. Su padre fue Fortino Medina Santacruz, su madre Aurora Gonzalez Vargas. El fue uno de 7 hijos: Maria Eugenia, Martha, Eduardo, Fortino, Juan, Maria Concepcion Y Rafael.

Recuerdo que el recordaba sus dias de infancia. El y su hermana Martha y despues su hermano Fortino solo ninos, vendian periodicos, tacos, burritos, y cualquier cosa para ayudar en los gastos de la familia. Junto con su padre hivan a la frontera a vender su comida a los que cruzaban todos los dias.

Despues su padre decidio empezar un negocio de familia, Fabricando curiosidades de yeso. Era trabajo laborioso, pero pagaba los biles. Eduardo decia que era trabajo duro hacer viajes a Los Angeles mientras escuchaba asignaciones de escuela pre grabadas. Y trato de nunca perder ninguna asignacion. Su trabajo valio la pena cuando se graudo con honores.

Eduardo Estudio en la Universidad de Baja CA. Recibio su licenciatura en Contabilidad y Administracion de Negocios en 1983. Recibió decisión unánime del Tribunal de Exámenes en su tesis. Después fue “Sinodal” a Tribunal de Exámenes. Después de graduarse se le ofreció posición como Profesor de Costo de Contabilidad lo cual acepto. Escribió un libro en Costo de Contabilidad que fue usado varios años como el libro de texto. Todavía hay copias en la librería de la universidad. Para este tiempo también, fue profesor en la Universidad privada CETYS, una de las mejores escuelas de educación mayor. Fue respetado como profesor y colega.

Desde que nos conocimos, recuerdo que él siempre estudiaba para memorizar información importante necesaria para su trabajo. Muchos lo recordaran con uno o dos libros debajo de sus brazos. Recuerdo que me dijo en una ocasión que se memorizo la gran parte de los libros de leyes de negocios. Tenía el don de tener una memoria photografica. Era muy competente en temas relacionados en contabilidad y ley civil.

Se retiró de profesor para trabajar en costo de contabilidad con PAGASA, una factoría de pasta y galletas. Trabajo allí aproximadamente 22 años, y se retiró en 2007. Después de retirarse trato de escribir otro libro pero su salud le empezaba a fallar.

Después de la muerte de su suegra, el superviso el reparo de su casa, pero para este tiempo ya estaba gravemente enfermo. Fue hospitalizado y diagnosticado con un tumor canceroso en un riñón. El riñón se removió, y por su decisión no tomo más tratamientos.

Eduardo fue conocido por ser un buen debator o polemista. Participo en muchos concursos en debates y recibió los siguientes honores:

Su hermano Fortino recuerda el gran aprecio a la poesía que Eduardo tenia. Yo lo recuerdo como un lector ardiente. Sus deberes diarios eran actualizar su computadora, notificar a sus amigos de los sucesos del día como la bolsa de valores y el valor del peso. Su computadora era indispensable. Él estaba en ella 10 a 12 horas por día. Siempre buscando información. Para sus amigos el era Wikipedia. Sus hermanos recuerdan lo mucho que leía y lo espiritual que era.

Es con una gratitud profunda que yo Armida Manzo Medina y familia agradece cada uno de ustedes por su consideración y su demostración de amor.

Se le va a extrañar que descanse en paz hasta vernos en el Paraíso de Dios.

Una poesía que era de sus favoritas y seguido recitaba era “IF” por Rudyard Kipling

“ IF” SI

SI puedes mantener tu cabeza cuando todos a tu alrededor la pierden y culpándote a ti,

Si puedes confiar en ti mismo cuando todos los hombres dudan de ti,

Pero hacen escusas porque ellos dudan de sí mismos:
