As one of fifteen children, “Eddie” did his part of the daily chores such as milking cows and plowing fields.
Once World War II struck, Eddie along with four of his brothers was sent away to war where he served time in Germany in the U.S. Army 12th Armored Division, also known as the “Hellcats”. There he drove a half-track under General George Patton, and remained in the U.S. Army for four years until he was honorably discharged from his service as a Tec 5.
Although they met before Eddie went away to war, Olga Ferrreira insisted that they waited to get married upon his rteturn. Thus, Eddie being the gentleman he was, granted her wish and married her surounded by their family and friends on September 20, 1947.
The blissful newlyweds left that day for their honeymoon to California and never looked back. After visiting family in Fresno, California they decided to build a home in the then very quiet beach town of Imperial Beach, California in 1948. Olga created the blue prints for her dream home and her beloved husband Eddie built it exactly how she wanted it with not a single electric tool in sight.
The loving couple then went on to raise their two daughters Gail and Paula, born only three years apart. Eddie worked at North Island Naval Air Station for the next 42 years, as Olga raised their daughters until she began to work for the Imperial Beach Post Office in 1956. Once Olga retired after her 24 years of service with the Post Office, she and Eddie began on a journey fufilling their lifelong retirement dreams of traveling all across the US in their motorhome, as well as traveling abroaud, taking many unforgetable cruises.
Amoungst their many excursions around the globe, Eddie and Olga also had the pleasure of giving away their daughter Paula into holy matrimony with fellow Imperial Beach native George Kosmicki on September 16, 1995.
Edward Braga died peacfully in the home he and his wife built all those years ago, surrounded by his wife Olga, daughtersa Gail Braga and Paula Kosmicki, Son-in-Law George Kosmicki, and granddaughter Krista Kosmicki on August 3, 2013 after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Edward not only leaves behind his family as mentioned above, but his remaing four brothers and one sister all still back on the east coast.
Eddie was the type of man who did not speak very much, however his actions spokes volumes louder than any words ever could. He was an honest family man who worked hard day in and day out until the very end. He never quit or gave up on anything he set his mind to. He loved his family beyond measure and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also loved the San Diego Chargers and Padres, as well as antique cars and motorcycles. He was always very active and loved his morning walks which included trips to the coffee shop with his wife where they met many life long friends.
