December 14, 1948 – January 17, 2026
Elenita Oquendo Gomez, 77, entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. A woman of profound faith and resilience, Elenita was a lifelong, devout Catholic whose life was a testament to the virtues of kindness and forgiveness.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Elenita immigrated to the United States with the Oquendo family, following her father’s honorable service during World War II. She dedicated over 20 years of professional service to IVAC, Eli Lilly, and Guidant before embracing her most cherished role: "Grandma."
Elenita’s retirement was defined by her devotion to the next generation. A traveler at heart, she moved wherever her family needed her—from Alaska to the Philippines to California. She was the heart of the home for her Gomez and Faustino grandchildren, spoiling them with their favorite meals, playing board games, and watching cartoons. Her final years were spent in the sunshine of Santa Monica, where she looked forward to weekly visits and hearing every detail of her family’s lives.
Elenita’s legacy is one of unconditional love. Though separated, she maintained a deep and abiding love for her husband, Jerry Gomez, and the entire Gomez family. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her devoted son, Jeremy Gomez; her daughter in law, Jennifer Gomez, and her cherished grandchildren, Anela, Ricardo, and great-granddaughter Eloise.
