Our mother passed peacefully at age 86 on March 3rd. Colleen is survived by her children, Gary and Gloria, daughter-in-law Letty, son-in-law Roy Van Grove, grandchildren Jennifer and Jeff, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Peck, in 1973.
Born December 21, 1926 in Canton, Montana to Albert and Nora Guffey, Colleen was the youngest of six children: Charles, Edna, Bill, Fern, and Maurice. She was raised on the family farm in Townsend, Montana. She graduated from Great Falls High in 1945. She later moved to San Bernardino, California to find her fortune, her husband, Elmer. They were married in Las Vegas on February 6, 1954. After moving to San Diego in 1967, our mom raised us with love and worked in the payroll department for the Navy, working her way up to supervisor, until she retired on December 14, 1986.
You won’t find our mom in a history book but she will live forever in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at The Little Chapel of the Roses, Glen Abbey Memorial Park at 1:00 on March 14th. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Colleen Peck may be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
