Elodia Farias Flores, 98, of Chula Vista, California, passed away on October 14, 2023. She was born in Tepames, Colima on December 28, 1924 to Luis Farias and Maria Flores. She lost her mother at the age of seven and at the age of 15, she decided to strike out on her own. She took a boat from Manzanillo to Tijuana, Mexico, with her best friend Rosa, and began a career of business and entrepreneurship. First she worked in a store, later she became a waitress, and then she established a restaurant and a beauty salon. With the help of her family already in America, she immigrated to the United States in 1966 with her youngest daughter, Mirella. She worked as a waitress until she began a lucrative business of buying and selling at the Swap Meet, which she enjoyed. In the late eighties, she built a home in Colonia Ejido Matamoros in the suburbs of Tijuana with the help of her son, Jose Luis. She traveled to and from her home in the States and Mexico for over twenty years until she returned permanently to the United States in 2011. She had four children: Raquel, Jeronimo, Jose Luis, and Mirella. She was a resilient, hardworking, and independent woman. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, sweeping, making people laugh, and helping others. She owned three beloved dogs throughout her life. Elodia, also known as “Gloria,” is survived by her four children and their spouses, several grandchildren, many great grandchildren, a handful of great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. She is greatly missed, but will remain forever in our hearts.
