Fely was born in Tondo, National Capital Region, Philippines, on June 11, 1934. She was the third of nine children born to Francisco and Margarita Villianueva Ramos. After high school, Fely attended the University of Santo Tomas and worked in the administrative office of a large retail department store. She enjoyed spending time with her family and often went on social outings with many of her cousins and other relatives. Fely was often chosen to participate in various festivals as the festival queen.
Fely met her future husband, Paterno "Pat" Santos Alabado (later known as Gregorio "Greg" Paterno Alabado) at Santo Niño de Tondo Parish, her local church where she and Pat were both active youth parishioners, serving mass and participating in the Legion of Mary. They married on December 17, 1960. After moving to the United States with Pat (as he was enlisted in the U.S. Navy), they had four children: Gerald, Rosemarie, Annette, and John.
She loved volunteering at church as a Choir Member, Eucharistic Minister, CCD Teacher and as a member of many social service groups. Fely and Greg would often be seen at the 7:00am Sunday mass at St. Rose of Lima as Fely served as a Eucharistic Minister and Greg served as a Lector. She was a frequent viewer of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) and was a huge fan of Mother Angelica.
After moving to San Diego in 1974, Fely was an active member of the South Bay Fil-Am Organization, attending monthly meetings, participating in potlucks, partying at dinner dances, and Christmas Caroling every year.
While she was a military spouse, Fely worked on base at the Needle Nook at Naval Station Guam. In Chula Vista, Fely worked as a Lunch Supervisor and at the Library at Burton C. Tiffany Elementary. Later, Fely joined General Dynamics, assembling mother boards for the F-16. She retired early as an Electronics Inspector. Her retirement years were spent with her grandchildren and travelling with Greg. Some of the countries she visited include Israel, Egypt, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Italy, the Vatican, Hong Kong, Thailand and of course, the Philippines. Some of Fely's other hobbies included crocheting, watching the San Diego Chargers and the Padres, going to casinos, and visiting her children and grandchildren when they lived out of state.
Fely is survived by her daughters Rosemarie (Richard) Larson of Imperial Beach and Annette (Dennis) Hunt of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, son John Alabado of Chula Vista; grandchildren Noah & Benjamin Harden, Gregory Larson, and Andrew & Zachary Hunt; great-grandchildren Lily & Madison Harden; sister Cynthia Buhay and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Fely was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Margarita Ramos, her husband Gregory Alabado, her son Gerald Alabado, and seven of her eight siblings: Mercedes Ballesteros, Rogelio Ramos, Manolita Ramos, Roberto Ramos, Mario Ramos, Mauro Ramos, and Ma. Cristina Rili.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.glenabbeysandiego.net for the Alabado family.
