Francisco Demilliones Salamante passed away in his sleep on Wednesday January 25, 2023 at his home in San Diego, California. “Frank” was born on April 4, 1946, in the Philippines, and joined the United States Navy in May 1969 as a maintenance worker for the Bachelor-Officers-Quarters. His supervisor recognized his ability for additional responsibilities and endorsed him for career advancement through schooling and testing. Eventually he became an Electrician’s Mate, serving and teaching courses in Gas Turbine Electrical Engineering in Great Lakes Illinois. He was also stationed in Norfolk Virginia, Athens Greece, and San Diego California, before retiring from his last duty station in San Jose California.
Family was very important to Frank. While stationed in San Jose, he would drive 8 hours home to San Diego every Friday night to spend the weekend with them. Every Sunday night he’d drive back to San Jose just in time to sleep and report back to work Monday morning. Frank made this trip almost every week while stationed in San Jose. Frank retired from the Navy with 20 years served. After that, Frank worked for another 19 years in the power plant of the Veterans Affairs Hospital in La Jolla California, ensuring the gas turbine engine supplied continuous power to the hospital.
Frank enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, and Aztecs football and basketball. He was a very good singer, and loved listening to Elvis, The Beatles, and The Bee Gees, among many others. He devoted his post-retirement life connecting with and chauffeuring his two granddaughters, Madison and Mackenzie, to and from school. Frank is also survived by his wife Evelyn, daughter Nenette, son Jeremiah, as well as his younger brother Herminio Jr., and beloved friends.
Visitation, funeral mass, and burial time/location are listed below.
