

Gerald Wayne Leavell‘s life journey began on June 4, 1952. He was born in Roswell, New Mexico. His parents' names were Donald Earl Leavell and Shirley Juanita Luechtefeld Mohrman. He was raised with one sister Donna Theresa Leavell and two brothers Gene Phillip and Keith Allen Leavell
Falling in love is a huge milestone for any person. Just knowing that you have met that special someone is a magical feeling. Gerald experienced that with Juanita Capuyan and the couple wed on November 8, 1986. The wedding ceremony took place at Most Precious Blood in Chula Vista, California. Empathic and loyal, Gerald was committed to making his new family happy.
While everything a person does in life contributes to who they grow into, it is ultimately this same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Gerald was blessed with three children, two daughters; Hazel (Lisa) Libanan and Jacqueline Capuyan Leavell and a son Donald Jason Capuyan Leavell. Gerald worked hard to be a good father to his children and did his best to fulfill their needs, raising his children in a positive and nurturing environment. Later on, Gerald was blessed with the gift of two grandchildren, Derrick and Leilani Mae Libanan.
How a person performs in the workplace can be a reflection on how they live their life. Fortunately, Gerald enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Gerald worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. Gerald served in the United States Navy from June 23, 1970 to May 31, 1991. He retired as a Senior Chief Machinist Mate (E8). Gerald received numerous medals such as: Vietnam Service Medal, Campaign Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Sea Service with Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal.
A person's hobbies often mirror who they have become. Gerald enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in a number of different activities, including archery, bicycling, dancing, singing, working out and watching John Wayne movies.
Gerald had many accomplishments in life starting with graduating from Robert H. Goddard High School in 1970. Another of his numerous accomplishments throughout his everyday tasks was being sober for 13 years. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was also a member of the Navy’s Eastpac mobile training team.
Gerald Wayne Leavell left us on July 13, 2012. He passed away at his home in San Diego, California. The cause of death was due to small cell cancer. He is survived by his wife Juanita Capuyan Leavell. His daughters Hazel Libanan and Jacqueline Capuyan Leavell and his son Donald Jason Capuyan Leavell. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Mortuary. A Funeral Service was held at Glen Abbey Mortuary chapel on Monday, July 23, 2012. Gerald was laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
So this is Gerald’s life, the sum of the man that he became. Simply stated, Gerald was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being caring and giving, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Gerald leaves behind him a legacy of lifelong friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life Gerald Wayne Leavell touched will always remember him with a smile.
