Gregg David Phillips was born in York, Pennsylvania, on January 23, 1959, a son of Eric C. (Rick) and Orlene (Lee) Phillips. He is survived by his children: Eric and Ashlee N.; his parents, Rick and Lee Phillips; brothers: Kevin (Jackie) and Michael (Sandy), and sisters:Kimberly Smith (Chris Bowman), and Tierney Sturm (Jeffrey, who was also Gregg's a close friend).
Gregg was a gentle soul with soft eyes and a warm smile. He was the first to greet you with a hug and "I love you" and would never leave or allow you to leave without repeating the same ritual again. He didn't dwell on what would be considered a negative. I guess you could say he thought of his glass as half full instead of half empty. He had the unique ability of bringing a lightness to my heart. We laughed a lot when we were together.
Greg was an avid Padre and Charger fan. Kimberly remembers as a child he had wanted to be a sports commentator. He had a box full of baseball cards and a notebook which he carried everywhere with him. When we would be in the car, he wrote his own commentaries on games that he put together with those cards. When we were at home he would lie on the floor in front of the TV and write his own detailed commentary on every play that he saw being made during the game that he was watching.
Gregg worked just as hard as he played. He had been employed for many years in auto parts departments of several Dodge automobile agencies. Instilled in him was a very strong work ethic. Whatever he needed to do to take care of his children, he did it. Gregg loved with every part of his being. Family was important to him. He was a wonderful brother and friend. He left this earth far too soon and for me,a light has gone out of my life forever.
Gregg’s brother-in-law and close friend (Jeffrey) writes, Gregg was a great father, a genuine man and an all around nice guy. He was as loyal and hard working as they come. He was the father to 2 children, Eric and Ashley.
He was a fighter and no problem in life could break him. He loved to have fun, whether it was going to a baseball game, having a barbeque or just having a few beers and laughing along with you. He very seldom asked for anything and deserved a lot more than he received. He was “just a bit stubborn”, but this was one of his traits that we all loved about him. His memory was unbelievable, whether it was part numbers for his job or sports statistics. He always lit up the room wherever he was at with his smile and outrageous laugh. He was a great father, brother and friend to all of us and we should do nothing but smile each and every time that we think of him.
We love you G-DAWG!!!
