Our beloved Ana Guzman has made her way home and was lifted into God's arms on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 73 years of age. She was born on January 21, 1949 in San Antonio, TX and lived a blessed life filled with love.
Ana's beautiful spirit radiated from within and filled a room with joy that could always be felt. She was a faithful child of God, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister & aunt. Ana's daily life was filled with an abundance of love and laughter. Her fun loving personality was something everyone wanted to be around. Her faith helped her navigate all that life would bring. Ana's warrior spirit was something that kept her going, and she instilled the very life principle that you never give up or quit, even when things get tough. She lived by every word she spoke and led a life that was the perfect example of selfless love. Ana wanted for us to love one another just as she was able to love each and every one of us.
Born into a loving family, Ana often spoke very fondly of both her parents. Her parents were the ones that showed her that while they did not have alot, they were very rich with love. She was proud that her dad was a train conductor and would share the stories he told her as a child. You could always see her face light up when she recalled all those special family memories. Ana always had a special place in her heart for her brother. She always had the utmost respect and admiration for him. Ana also often shared stories for each one of her sisters that played a part in shaping her into the woman she grew up to be.
A very important part of her story continued as Ana would catch Pete's eye at a weekly canteen dance at Edgewood High School. They were high school sweethearts that eventually married in the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio, TX in 1970. Pete was in the U.S. Marines and would get stationed in San Diego. That would bring them both to sunny San Diego, CA. Ana had dreams of going to the west coast and once she saw the ocean, she fell in love and San Diego became their home. They had four children together and Ana spent every moment of everyday raising, teaching, guiding and caring for her children.
Ana’s work experience started with being a secretary, shifted to be a full time mom and student, later to working with fine jewelry. Her greatest role of all was being a religious educator at St. Catherine Laboure Church. She was able to put her practice in teaching the word of God not only to her family, but her teachings now extended to others in the community. All of the events she attended would often include some involvement from her children, and was a time period in her life that she was very grateful to have experienced.
Ana was a very proud mother and would do anything for her children. She was not only a mother, but she was a teacher, counselor, nurse and friend. Ana was actively involved in the lives of each of her four children and was always there to lift and guide them. From parent teacher conferences, dance recitals, football games, comic con, academy graduations, concerts, trips and so many more events (too many to name them all) – Ana was always there with the biggest smile on her face. From picnics at the beach,
Balboa Park, and Presidio Park to trips to Sea World, Zoo, Universal Studio and Disneyland – these were just some of the fun activities that Ana wanted to ensure her children could experience growing up. She had a special bond with each one of her children and always just wanted for them all to be happy and healthy in whatever direction life would take them.
Ana is survived by her husband, Pete Guzman; her daughter, Sandy Guzman; her sons, Peter, Jaime & David Guzman; her grandchildren, great-grandchild, brother, sisters, nephews, nieces and large immediate and extended family that currently reside in Texas.
One of the notes Ana left behind on the first page of her journal to her family was the following scripture that can serve as a reminder for everyone…
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
