Dear Grandma,
I have never found the time, or the words to express my gratitude and respect for your life. Throughout your final years on Earth, we lived under the same roof, and I watched as you shrunk from a robust, joking, dancing woman to a pale, weak, shade lying in bed day after day. A rift existed between us, as I ran up and down the stairs, heading to class, work, some friends house. The only interactions we had were when I'd give you an insulin shot, or ask if you were O.K. We lived in different worlds. In yours, it wasn't fine for an unmarried couple to be alone in a room, even if they were just watching Netflix. You didn't know what Netflix or the internet were. I didn't take your old fashioned ideas about men very seriously.
A few days before you passed away, I fed you dinner and ice cream with a spoon.
"Nini."
"Yes, grandma?"
"I love you."
    "Papa?... I love you"
    "I love you, too."
Will there ever again be a woman who tells her husband of 54 years that she loves him every fifteen minutes?
In a world in which true love, faith and loyalty are so very rare, your example is an invaluable gem. I am so proud to say that I am your granddaughter. You were much more than just a beautiful woman... Infinitely more. I love you much.

Thank you for my cars. Go to heaven safely. I love you, too. God bless you, Grandma.

I'll always remember coming to San Diego and visiting Grandma and Grandpa. I always had the best time. Grandma would always care for us whether she was feeling good or not. She would always be tending to her garden or offering us food or just walking around the house. She was the most beautiful, loving Grandmother that anyone could ask for. I will always cherish our memories, whether we are celebrating our birthdays, throwing parties for their anniversary, or just spending time together. I still remember singing to them at their anniversary party. I will always love you, Grandma.

Beautiful, strong, loving, and caring are all words that describe our Grandma. Whenever we came to visit, Grandma always put on a smile that made all of us feel warm and happy inside. She made sure we were always well fed and cared for. I still remember the way she would dance to the music her toys would play, and how she said "I love all you peoples" before we'd leave after visiting her and Grandpa. You will always have a special place in my heart, Grandma. I love you.

We weren't able to see her for the whole entire year just once during Christmas. But everytime we did come it was a very memorable time. I remember her smile when she welcomed us. When it was Grandmas and Grandpas 50th anniversary I remember she cried for us when we were leaving back to Florida. Thank you Grandma for all the things you have done for us. I love you and will always remember you.

Grandma,
Thank you for introducing me to the delicious fruits and roots of the Philippines. All of which you grew in your garden and somehow made taste better when fed to me from your fingertips. You will be remembered through the flowers and plants that surround your home and the stories your children share. I love you very much.

One of the hardest things about living in Florida is not being able to see those you love often, but every year, my family made the entire week worthwhile, especially my Grandmother. Every year I visited she always showed that she cared about me. I always remember how even though I was already full, she would tell me to finish my food. She would always make sure that my plate was clean from its meal, and at the end of our visit, she would send us off with a box of her peanut brittle I remember her and Grandpa's dance during their golden anniversary. I also remember her crying as she comforted me after my mother's death. Lastly, even though it was almost time and she was laying down in bed, I could still see the smile on her face when she said hello. Grandma I'll always remember you and your kind acts when you welcomed us into your house. We are all thankful for all the time we spent with you.

I love you and miss you. I know you're looking down on us and I feel your spirit with me everyday.

While I was going through a hard time, Grandma was constantly taking care of me. She'd always remind me to brush my hair and when it was time to eat. She'd help me feel better when I was down physically and mentally, by making me soup when I was sick or telling me I looked pretty. She also liked to remind me that I was so tall, and that I needed to find a boyfriend before I get too tall. Grandma I miss you and I love you so much.

My eyes were consumed by the sight of Bob Ross vigorously painting a tree branch in one of his many landscapes. Stuck in front of the clearly outdated television that still had wood panels and knobs. Until a distinct smell disrupted the public broadcast, and if you were a Gobaton this delectable scent was no stranger. It managed to fill you with excitement. The air was filled with an aroma of oil and sugar and banana. That's right. "Grandma, are you making banana fritters?" I'd see a plate cooled and ready to eat on the counter before she could answer me. Caught in my own enthrallment, and with cheeks stuffed with deep-fried goodness, I never noticed Grandma reatreating into the other room. This room was a place of magic and mystery to me, because I wasn't really allowed to go in. But it was a place where yards of ordinary fabrics transform into garments of perfection. All tailored to fit like a glove. Once I heard the loud roar of a foot petal resonate throughout the house, I knew Grandma was crafting another masterpiece. Every garment was bounded together by a thin thread stitched into the seams. And just like that thread, Grandma stitched together my childhood. It was completely beautiful and unique and tailored to perfection. Those are moments that I will miss, but forever cherish. I love you, Grandma.

Grandma was always very caring, no matter if you were family, friend, or stranger. She always asked if you had eaten or not and offered her hospitality.

Thank you for coming to celebrate our mother's life. Our mother, Hospicia Pacardo Gobaton, passed away peacefully at home with our father by her side on the afternoon of January 25. In her last days, mom didn't say too much. She was in the advanced stages of heart disease with dementia developing. From time to time, we were fortunate enough to have a short conversation with her pre-illness self.
As time went on, these times happened less and less frequently. Gradually, we began to accept that she ws slowly saying good-bye. By the time she passed away, we were somewhat ready because of the way she slipped away so gradually at first.
There she was, like always... looking out for her family.
Many will remember her as a vibrant robust woman who was candid and spoke her mind -most times, not too gently. Others might remember her as a dressmaker who sewed the ball gowns for their wedding -from the bridal gown to the flower girls' dresses or the robes for their choir group. Even better, the lady who put the personal touches on their handcrafted dress, over which they made a special connection. 
Still others might remember that she had a green thumb and a special touch for growing orchids and vegetables, some of which are native to PI. Her closest friends would say, she cared about her children so much that sometimes they would talk on the phone for hours going on about how proud she was of them or how angry she was about them. All of these and more are true about our mom. The thing that I will remember is that she loved God and prayed often. Several times a day she'd say, "Salamat sa Dios" or "Jesus, Maria Joseph" ('sus marioa sip!!). God was always on her mind. She used to say, "If you stay close to God, He will take care of you." For those who don't know me, I am her fourth (of seven) child. My name is Norvie and I have one twenty-four year old son. If you are a parent, you know that raising children is no picnic. Child rearing brings many challenges. Whenever I feel overwhelmed with my one son, I think about my mom who probably experienced what I was feeling times seven.
A very good piece of advice she gave me was: Just remember the good things. This is what's important. The times that seem bad are just the part of the journey leading to the good times. I feel like she was saying, "I forgive you and I'm proud of you. Remember the good things."

Mom's favorite quote was, "Mom always knows best". We would hear this from her often. If one of us gave Mom praise for a well-made gown, her response would be, "Of course, Mom always knows best!". She even used this quote at times when we didn't want to hear it. I remember back in elementary school, a classmate had a slumber party. After begging her for permission several times, I asked why I could not attend. With hands on both hips, she closed the discussion again with her favorite quote.
Now that I am a parent, I realize "Mom always knows best" are truly words of wisdom. Whenever I start to doubt my parenting skills, Mom's confidence and steadying influence come to mind. Then, any doubts I have dissolve, leaving me assured that I had made the right decision.
Thank you Mom for planting that seed of wisdom in my heart. Now I understand the love and pride you felt for each and evey one of your children. Thank you for being your best, for us. God bless your beautiful soul, Mom. You are loved and missed so much.

I miss you with all my heart. I long to hold you and tell you how beautiful you are and how much you meant to me. I realize that I can no longer do that and it's what makes me saddest of all.
I'll never get used to not having you around. But I will remember you when I see the things that you used to enjoy on this earth. Like the roses you grew and tended to just like they were one of your own children. It was no wonder they grew so big and beautiful. Or the sewing machine you would spend countless hours creating hundreds of dresses to amaze even your most demanding customers.
On that note, I have to bring up the one time you sewed patches onto my favorite torn jeans. I remember being so furious at you for ruining them. But, I learned two things from the incident. First, don't leave tattered clothes in the laundry room because a mother that loves you will not let you leave the house looking like you have no home. Second, after closer inspection I found that you did some intricate stitching that actually made my torn jeans look even cooler. I might have even started a new fad.
The one thing you never taught me was how to say good-bye. I will never get used to not having you here. For now, I'll hold on to the memories we have together and just remember the happy times. Love you Mom...

I learned hard work and dedication from Mom. One example I remember was when she and Dad would work long days at Michael's Pizza. She would sometimes take on extra work as a seamstress. I remember hearing the hum of her sewing machine going late into the next morning. The sound filled our house. I remember thinking "Mom works too hard." As I tried to go back to sleep :)

My dear mother,
I feel blessed to have been able to take care of you during your last years on Earth. Thank you for doing your best when I tried to "get you back into" sewing and gardening. Eventually, I saw that you were too weak to do the two things you enjoyed doing most. You spent the rest of your days praying with dad, and telling your children and grandchildren, "I love you." When you stopped being strict mom, the rule maker, the income maker, the house maker, I just saw you, mama, a kind and loving soul. It's so obvious, your love was the bond of the family. I will miss you everyday for the rest of my life.

Dear Mom, words can't express how grateful I am to have had you as a mother. I'll always be in awe of how you came to a foreign country and raised us, sometimes all by yourself. Only after becoming a mother myself, did I realize how much sacrifice, love and courage it must have taken you to raise 7 children. The dedication and unconditional love you gave us was tireless. You saw the best in all your children even at our worst. You never gave up on us. You give me hope that I can give the same kind of love to Dani and Lyndon. You taught me that marriage takes more than just love. It also requires compromise and trust. You taught us to always put God first and pray everday. I will always keep your words of wisdom with me. Thank you Mom for the love, strength and courage you passed on to me. You were a wonderful mother. I will love and cherish you forever. God bless you, Mom.

Mom had a will like steel but she also had a pure heart that was soft and warm and never failed in the deep love she had for her family. The one lesson she instilled in me was the power and knowledge. I still hear her voice eagerly say, "The greatest gifts parents can give their children is a college education because no matter what happens, it is the only thing no one can ever take away from you." Many doors of adventure and windows of opportunities have been opened to me because of her important lesson.

Mom, I miss you so much. You must be so happy right now. You helped put us on a path to God. Now you are with Him. We pray that we will have eternal life with you and The Lord! I love you always.

Dear Manay Hosping.
There were many happy memories we shared during our younger years.  The laughter on the jokes and stories you told.  The hospitality you showed to your house guests we will miss. But the Lord has called you now and so I bid you farewell with our prayers.  God speed my friend and cousin.Rest well.

Manay Hosping, so many memories and so much love. It's always been you and Manoy and all the kids and then their families.
