

Nothing can ever take away something the heart holds dear. Jose Reyes Quintanilla, 90, of San Diego, CA, died on July 24, 2025.
He was born in Imus, Cavite in the Philippines on April 2, 1935 to Amado and Gervacia Quintanilla. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 18. Jose met the love of his life, Alejandra Lorenzo Quintanilla, in 1960. They ultimately got married on March 4, 1961 in Manila, Philippines.
Jose and Alejandra couldn’t wait to start a family of their own. While stationed in the Philippines in 1961, they welcomed their first child, Carol. Upon returning to the United States, they welcomed their second daughter, Valerie, in 1964. It would be seven years before they completed their family by bringing their youngest daughter, Susan, into the world in 1971.
He retired from the US Navy after 20 years in 1974 and served another 17 years in civilian service at the Naval Training Center in Point Loma. After retiring, he and Alejandra spent a several years participating at the Bay Terraces Fil-Am Senior Center, where he also served as the sitting president for a few years.
Jose will always be remembered for his kind personality and easy-going nature. He was incredibly intelligent and able to fix just about anything. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather (Lolo), great grandfather, brother, and friend, and we will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Jose was preceded in death by his father, Amado Quintanilla Sr., mother, Gervacia Quintanilla, brother, Amado Quintanilla Jr., brother, Primitivo Quintanilla, son, John Quintanilla, son-in-law, Chip Lindgren, son-in-law, Jeffrey Patterson, granddaughter, Daly Lindgren, and his great granddaughter, Chloe Tornero. He is survived by his wife, Alejandra Quintanilla, daughters, Carol Patterson, Valerie Lindgren and Susan Rubio (h. Bobby Rubio), his granddaughters, Carina Tornero (h. Michael Tornero) and Jennica Bohn (h. Eric Bohn), and Faith Lindgren, his grandsons, Samuel Lindgren, Harrison Rubio, Alex Rubio and Will Rubio, his great grandchildren, Mila Tornero, Elle Tornero, and Elijah Bohn, his siblings, Rolando Quintanilla, Nenita Sudo and Ideomedes Quintanilla.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jose’s memory to the. American Cancer Society.
Viewing will take place on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 5-9pm at the Little Chapel of the Roses located at Glen Abbey Memorial Park 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902
His Celebration of Life service is on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 11am and will be held at Little Chapel of the Roses located at Glen Abbey Memorial Park 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. This will be preceded by a breakfast reception that begins at 9am.
His Military Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 1:15pm at the Miramar National Cemetery 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.
