Joyce came to San Diego in the winter of 1942 along with her grandmother to help an aunt who had recently had a baby. Rather than return to Iowa, she remained in sunny San Diego where she met her future husband Raymond. Ray and Joyce were married in June, 1944, just shy of being married 71 years They have two children, Phyllis and Earl.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond, her children Phyllis and Earl and daughter in law Ali, two grandchildren Eric and Robyn, her brother, Eddie Grettenberg, nephew, Steve Grettenberg, both of Iowa, four great nieces and great-great nieces and nephews including recent triplets.
