Kevin is survived by his wife Crystal Willson, son Kyle Willson, son Dean Willson, brother JD Willson, sister Julie Parks and mother Shirley Vega. Kevin’s Father Jerry passed away in 1998.
Kevin has been in business for 30 Hilarious years. He opened his first store in the Small World Village and Bavarian Inn in Chula Vista. He then moved to the 3rd and Oxford location, where Krazy Kevin’s still proudly stands. The first car built by His Krazyness was while he was recovering from a motorcycle accident. After a few races, he found getting parts was a challenge, and finding somebody that knew a dog bone from a shock absorber could be equally as challenging. He began to formulate an idea!! What about opening an RC shop and store? And one night, after some late night TV, the name began to take shape… and Krazy Kevin’s was born. It just fit..
Turns out this was a pretty good idea. Kevin enjoyed doing all things RC - build’em, break’em, make’em better. His experience building car after car after car, and learning the cars inside and out, was just how you get it done. Did he ever ask you, “Why didn’t you build your own car??? If you don’t build it, you won’t know how to fix it.”
Kevin’s work was his daily fun. He looked forward to interacting with Krazy Kevin customers and fans, and he enjoyed supporting the community by collecting toys for “Toys For Tots”, donating his shop’s time for "Camp Reach for the Sky” every July, and sponsoring his sons’ teams for soccer and little league baseball.
Kevin enjoyed riding his chopper, offroading three wheelers and quads, and -- you guessed it -- RC racing. He did at one time hold a special license at Malibu Grand Prix, and was even allowed to drive their club car. Show off!!
There is even an urban legend about a desert trip to Ocotillo Wells:
Legend has it, while Kevin was recovering from his knee cap being broken in half and still receiving physical therapy, we covered him in body armor, loaded up a couple 350cc three wheelers (70 mph kind), and headed out. After several days of riding hard, and testing that body armor, Kevin returned to physical therapy. Shocking several therapists with his increased mobility and bendability of his repaired leg, they began to press . . . how did you do this?? Aaahhhh welllll . . .three wheeling. This of course caused other therapists to be called over. He went Three Wheeling!!! In the Desert! No, I am not kidding, ask him yourself!!!!
This story will not be confirmed or denied, so don’t ask… As a side note, during Kevin’s knee surgery, the drill bit used to drill his knee for pins began to smoke, confirming he was indeed hard headed, due to hard bones……..
Kevin’s life changed when he met Crystal. Then through Crystal, Kevin received what he would later write about as his two greatest accomplishments, his sons Kyle and Dean. Kevin was always so proud of his boys and loved his family more than anything.
A memorial for Kevin will be held in the main chapel Thursday, July 19, 2018
from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.
Please bring your wonderful stories to share with his loved ones and friends. It will be a time to remember Kevin for the fun loving Krazy man that he was.
