Lilia Mae Amparan-Wiles, age 72, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014, surrounded by love and her family, in Chula Vista, California. She was born on December 2, 1942 in El Paso, Texas and raised a proud “Texan”. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where she was active in ROTC, Youth Teams, Senior Follies, Modern Dance and the school newspaper as Feature Editor of the “The Branding Iron”, until graduation, Class of 1961. Shortly after graduation she began employment with Dial Finance.
Lilia continued lighting-the-stage with solo dances and performances until a handsome soldier caught her heart. Lilia Mae Amparan married Earl Daniel Wiles on November 4, 1967 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Douglas Chapel and continued to reside in El Paso.
She was a wonderful caring mother of Judie Marie Wiles and Elizabeth Kaye Wiles whom she would always refer to as “Her beautiful daughters”. Lilia continued employment with Dial Finance until merged into Norwest Finance, in 1982, and then merged into Wells Fargo Finance, in 2000. Lilia retired from Wells Fargo with 35+ loyal and dedicated years of customer service in the financial industry, at age 65.
Her entire life, “Lilly” nourished those around her with love, kindness and faith. Lilia was known as, “Mom”, “Lilia”, “Lilly”, “Aunt Lilly”, “Sister”, “Grandma”, “Great-Grandma”, and most loving of all was “Friend”. “Mom” was dedicated to having fun and being involved in all of our school activities. “Lilly” was equally busy helping others and dedicated to her family, and Heavenly Father’s work. Her church family knew her as “Sister Wiles” or “Hermana Wiles” and for being the first volunteer and the last to leave. She had a great eye for table arrangements, setting up the room and class presentation. She was the “go-to” person at church events. She made sure everyone felt special, and no one left hungry, or without hearing of her strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints and her love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (There was also much bragging about her two daughters and her grandchildren who “could do no-wrong”).
Lilia moved from her home in El Paso, Texas to Chula Vista, California in 2013 during the battle with cancer to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. Lilia’s fight with cancer was brave and strong. She continued to be an example of God’s love by continuing to worry about others until her final day.
Lilia Mae Wiles is survived by her sister Rebecca Amparan-Brambila in California, her sister Beatriz Amparan-Gutierrez and brother Humberto Amparan in Texas. Her daughters, Judie Marie Wiles, Elizabeth Kaye Wiles-Carzoli, son-in-law, Sergio Carzoli, Grandson Michael Leland Eldridge, John Daniel Eldridge, Matthew Dylan Eldridge, Granddaughter Samantha Kaye Carzoli, Grandson, Sergio Carzoli, Great Grandson Mason John Eldridge, in California.
