Louise Bohman Ribal was a strong, devoted, fun and inspiring mother, grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister, teacher and friend. She passed away peacefully late on February 14, 2017 after an evening surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born July 28, 1933, in Chicago where she was raised by her parents, Robert Bruce Bohman and Louise Fuerst Bohman. Louise was a long-time resident of southern California, including years in Seal Beach and Huntington Beach. She had lived in her home in Chula Vista since 2002.
Family was primary for Louise. Her two children, Laura Tiano (Curtis) of Northfield, MN, and David Ribal (Patty) of Chula Vista, as well as her five grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Sarah, Anthony and Daniel, were clearly the lights of her life. She delighted in sharing baseball games, movies and current events, daily conversations and texts with them. In addition, Louise was the loving and cherished matriarch of a larger family that included her late brother Robert Louis Bohman’s children, Jeffrey (Barbara), Janice (Robert), Jonathan (Linda) and Jay, and seven great nieces and nephews, Tyler (Tahreem), Aubrie, Margaret, Abigail, Lea, Jayson and Jasmyn, who will miss her dearly.
The valedictorian of her eighth grade class, Louise graduated from the National College of Education in Evanston, IL, with a degree in education. She moved out to California in the 1950s where she met and settled with her former husband, Joseph Ribal. Louise was a dedicated primary school teacher for many years. She enjoyed a second career involving fund raising administration at the Hoag Hospital Foundation in Newport Beach, California. After retirement, she helped in classrooms and in after-school reading programs in Chula Vista. She also volunteered at the Bonita Library and as an election judge.
Louise enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, reading, music, watching sports, and doing the Jumble word puzzle in the morning with her special coffee drink.
A celebration of Louise’s life will be held on Sunday, February 19 from 11 a.m.– 1 p.m, at Glen Abbey Mortuary, Little Lodge building, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA, 91902.
