Margaret “Dixie” O’Donnell, 88, passed away peacefully on July 30, in San Diego, California. She was born on November 2, 1935, in Meredosia, Illinois to Ralph and Hazel Griebler. Dixie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister.
Following college, Dixie moved to San Diego in the late 50s, and taught at a local high school. She also met her future husband, Robert (Bob, ODE), a young Navy man, who was just getting started in his career. They married in 1960. Together they raised six children and traveled the world, making life-long friends along the way.
Dixie was a true force of nature who, as a Navy wife, could pack up her house and her six kids and move across country at the drop of a hat. She was incredibly unselfish, creative and thoughtful in everything she did. She will be remembered for always making that special effort, remembering the small personal details and having very individual and special relationships with her grandchildren.
Dixie is survived by her husband, Robert, five of her six children, two sisters and a brother, and many grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in her memory:
