Mom,  if you did not hear me before please let me tell you again....

You are a force to be reckon with!
You fought through diversity and controversies!
You went through trails and tribulation through several generations and decades!
You made a Single Mom and their responsibilities look easy!
You taught me, never dought myself and always push through!
You helped me become a better Mom, friend and a better human being!
You help me understand nothing in the world is free and you have to work for it!

Just know, I miss you terribly every day!  I hear you saying, Stephanie, dummy up and stop crying!  Just know I miss my best friend, my ride or die, my one and only that never really asked questions and was right there beside me, every single day!

Your service was beautiful! Your plot overlooking San Diego is a spectacular view as you will always be on top of the world!  A great time was had by all at your Celebration of Life! Every single person walked up to me and said how you would have love your services!  
Have to say-- I tried to fix your hair...you don't do curls- but you still looked outstanding to me!

Just know, I will currish the last few days on this earth with you!  Our laughs, our talks and at the end your sounds of humming! WE held your hands and hugged you giving you comfortable as God was reaching out to you and take you home! I hope your transition was smooth and pain free! I will continue your legacy and caring on our family values for generations to come.

I do not want to end this memory, as I write this, tears are rolling down my cheek! 

Just know Mom, I am and always will be proud of the person you became.

Sweet Maureen, I had the pleasure of meeting her at Don's Cocktails with her daughter (my friend) Stephanie. She was spunky, kind and fashionable!  I also had the pleasure of working with her on getting a new dishwasher installed in her home last year. It was not an easy process and she a lot of times had frustration with it. She always told me she was thankful that I was there to just listen to her vent on the process. Maureen you will be missed, you were a wonderful woman. Rest in Peace in Heaven, sweet angel. Mo, you and Steph are one of my first memories of my adolescence: late nights, laughs, moped rides and camping! Your zest for life and love of laughter will forever be a cherished memory of mine.  Thank you for opening up your home to so many Bonita girls and encouraging long lasting friendships! Your memory will continue on in us and more importantly in the close family you nurtured.  Love and light! 

My heart goes out to Stephanie and her entire family for losing such a vibrant, heartfelt woman, Maureen. 
My memories of Maureen are from many many moons ago. I knew her through her daughter, Stephanie. I lived on the street right by them in Bonita.
I remember the music, the laughter, the fun and energy, coming from that home. 
I do recall all the guys making statements in just how, "Hot", Stephanie's mom was until I met her. Yes, she was, "Hot", but all I remembered was how she radiated and beamed with this, "Energy", of life. Oh how I wanted to know her. 
So when I did end up meeting her, she was even more amazing than I thought. Always a smile, always something nice to say and it was all authentic. WoW! 
I wished I would have gotten to know her better. Especially now that I'm older because I believe we were on the same energy field. 
Here's to you. Maureen. What a lady and I'm sure glad I did get to meet you and enjoy your Sunshine 🌻🌅.

Maureen’s (Mo) love and inclusiveness is the absolute  foundation of my youth, so much of who I am today is from all of the time we spent hanging out in Bonita all us girls, all together, all the time. She gave us a safe place to be teenagers and find our own paths in life. Our Bonita roots run deep, and our friendships and bonds are lifelong connections.  I have no doubt that Mo is up in heaven and still moving things around in our favor.  Thank you for all the positive impact you had on my life - Rest In Peace Mo, you are one of a kind! 

Mo was a very special lady. One of my favorite things about her was her sense of humor. She was absolutely hilarious & I truly appreciated her for always making me laugh in the best way possible.
She dearly loved Stephanie, her grandchildren & all of her family. She'll be deeply missed. ❤️

I have so many fond memories of Maureen.  She was larger than life, she had presence and was a caring mother figure for all of the neighborhood girls.  She shared her home and  let us explore being a teenager while we were safe at her home.   Mo cared about us like we were all daughters.    She made us feel like family, taking us camping or driving adventures.  You never knew what to expect with Mo but  the unknown made everything an adventure.  I also loved seeing Mo as a grandmother and a great-grandmother to Taylor and Peytynn.  You could see her glow in every picture with them.   

The last time I saw Mo was when she and Adrienne popped by after the horse races a couple years ago.  The doorbell rang and my jaw hit the floor when I saw Maureen standing in my doorway.  While it had been a few years since we’ve seen each other, I was shocked at how much she looked the same, she acted the same and she loved me the same.  I am so glad to have seen her that day.   You will be missed Maureen but never forgotten!   God speed!


Maureen, it seems that I have known you all my life instead of just 25 years. You were always there for me during the tough times, standing as a positive beacon for the future. Things will be fine you would say and they were. Billy and I appreciated you attending birthdays and holidays with us. I think of those times and I see your smile, always there, bringing laughter into our home. You simply made our world a better place. Living only about a quarter of a mile away you would just pop in to say hi, armed with a bag of who knows what. You were always prepared for a short visit or a bottle of wine. Many times this was your pitstop as I was usually coerced into washing your car and checking the oil and tire pressure! You made the simple things fun and were a daily part of our lives.
One time when Billy I were doing yard work at her house, I was standing on the neighbors 4 inch wide wall while trying to trim the monster hedge when I lost my balance and fell into it. As I struggled to get out she came over and said "what did you do that for?"  I said "been a slow day". Maureen laughed so hard spilling her drink. She could always see the  humorous side of anything. We would sit in my driveway for hours drinking wine, talking and solving the problems of the world. Well, the bottom line is, I will always miss those times and you.




Maureen was Many things to me. We shared Love, Laughter, and a Whole lot of tears together.
 I met Maureen when I was 15 which was 40 years ago. She helped me deal with my demons (childhood). She didn't pull any punches either, which was exactly what I needed. She Always told you the Truth whether you liked it or not. 
 We shared culture, art, Museums, and music together. Many nights on San Diego's beaches, and night life. 
 To say she Loved life and her family is Truely an understatement! Although we weren't "family by blood", she treated me as though I were. 
 Miss her? To My Core! I Love You Mo! And I hope you continue to be as Happy up there in Heaven as you've made So many of us down here!

My memories of My Dear Neighbor, Friend , Mother Figure Maureen Lesneski “ Mom “ I called her as a young child as I got older I called her Mo. I do have a special place in my heart for her and will miss her dearly I feel so blessed to have been able to spend her 79th Birthday with her at Taylor’s her Grandaughter, Stephanie brought her for her Surprise party it truly was a fun party and I treasured the time I got to spend with her and her family! She truly was so proud of her family. I lived next door. I remember Mo, would always take us to the old folks home around Xmas time and of course she would always pick up Xmas cookies from Vons to take with us a pass out while we sand Christmas Carols. I was so fortunate to get to Travel with the family Stephanie her daughter and Bobby to Palm Springs, we drove through the mountains and She would keep saying do you see the Indian lol I was in 3rd grade she was good at making the drive fun!! Steph and I did the talent show we did a Hawaiian dance. There are many things I may not have had the chance to do as a kid without Mo , like teaching me how to camp at Campland one of my favorite places to take my daughter. The Bonita Fest Parades she entered us into the ballon ladies of Bonita and the Potatoe heads lol .... I remember Mo would say don’t ever leave the house without makeup on lol now that I’m older I try to do better with that lol... I remember she was a bad ass business women, very smart in business and computers. She brought home the first computer on the block it was very cool! She had a zest for life and a flare for decor animal print everything! Funny, when my baby Sierra was born I had zebra pillows and leopard decor too! I learned how to swim at Mo and Stephs house .. Mo had a far out laugh and we had a lot of laughs she was a pretty groovy Lady growing up I will never forget the Super Bowl party Steph and I decorated it was so exciting to help out on this big party! So many fond memories of Mo and How Steph Sis 

Hey Baby this Bobby, I miss you!! for you were the love of my life. I remember seeing you for the first time a the bowling alley. Watching you roll that pink ball down the alley. Could not take my eyes off of you. You had me on that first beautiful smile and Thor’s deep eyes. I was yours from that moment on. We did a lot throughout our lives together. From camping with the Bonita girls and traveling in Motorhome. To many loving memories to mention!! We wasted a lot of time in our lives by not getting married. First it was me asking you and then it was you asking me. We where so stubborn and wanted everything each other’s way!! I miss you !!
You are the most beautiful women that I ever have seen or will ever see!! I miss you!!I alway loved you and I always will..

I only knew Mo for about three years but I feel extremely honored to have known her. She was the light in the room at every event that I went to at which she was also attending. She always walked straight toward me and made me feel important and welcome. She was super fun and could always be counted on for a good long conversation! I will miss her terribly. She was one of the friends that I made since I moved to San Diego and really helped me feel like this was my new home. She  was such a beautiful person!

One of our favorite things about Maureen was she always looked so nice, no matter what time of day it was or how she felt. During the boat races she would be the 1st one up early in the morning to get things ready. She would be dressed so nicely, her hair would be perfect as well as her make-up.  She always looked so nice. 
She was so proud of her family.  She had such a big heart for everyone.  I’ll never forget her beauty, her fiery red hair, her perfect nails and her great laugh.  Most of all I’ll remember her beautiful smile and her love for life. We are lucky to have met such a wonderful woman.
Keep on laughing and dancing Maureen! 

You may not have been my grandma by blood but you took me in with open arms and loved me like a granddaughter. I will cherish all the memories we have together. We will never forget you grandma. Xoxo

Mom taught me many things in life and how to handle the good and the bad. I miss her so much, her love, and concern about me and Randy. ❤️🙏🥰💕

Stephanie - It was 35+ years since I last saw your mother, so I only have a few vague memories from when I was 15 or 16.  After reading so many kind and wonderful posts about her,  thoughtful memories and touching attributes, it seems I missed out knowing a truly remarkable person.  My heart and love goes out to you and your family.


I met beautiful Maureen at a birthday party during the summer a couple years ago. She was so sweet and welcoming to me, I remember helping in the kitchen and she would give the most compliments on how the food looked and smelled. Shes was the life of the party, always had the biggest smile and just enjoyed the time dancing! I am forever grateful to have met such a beautiful soul. Maureen you will be forever missed and love! 

Maureen or "Mo" as many of us called her was a dynamo! And she used that word! She always had her makeup on point, lip liner perfected, hair did, dressed to the nine and smelled beautiful with her favorite fragrances. She was the ultimate Glam-ma, mom! A lot of us young ladies from Bonita spent many days over at her eccentric home and believe there was never a dull moment. Lots of fun slumber parties were had. She was thee coolest mom on the block! One of my favorite memories was when she took me for a ride in her little red sports car, music blaring and wind in my hair, boy I thought I was the bee's knees! We went to a few stores that she liked to go to and spend hours just looking at little trinkets and goodies. She told me some stories as we walked through the store, such a wise lady. Stephanie was mad so she was ignoring me and her mom! Ha! I don't even remember what that was about but moms and daughters just butt heads sometimes and their relationship was very close none the less. ❤❤
The care free days!... Oh I miss them. 
Mo will be missed most definitely and thought of always. She was a really cool and kind lady. Fly high and your sparkling wings and rest peacefully in heaven. Much love snd respect,

I have so many fond memories of Moe, but the one that I can remember the most is when Stephanie and I both lost our jobs,  I had gone over to Stephanie’s house, and we were all out front putting Christmas lights away Moe came over to me and gave me a hug and said it’s gonna be OK!! That’s just the type of person she was positive, always there for people, and nice!
Also, I really enjoyed all our talks in the car on the phone with Stephanie myself and Moe!

I met Mo while working for Pacific Bell. I was the resident computer support geek. I talked to Mo a lot. She was very inquisitive with a strong desire to learn everything about computers. We became great friends. She always wanted to know where I would be at a certain time on St. Patrick’s Day. Of course I had no idea where I would be. Crazy question for me on that day. But we always tried to hook up. It was super fun. The St. Patrick’s Day parade was also another day we got together. She couldn’t have been more Irish ☘️ 
I will miss her smile and laughter. She enjoyed both. 
Now she is with God and His holy wisdom and infinite love. Looking down on us from heaven above. Sending good fortune, contentment and peace. And making sure all your blessings forever increase.

I will forever miss my wonderful neighbor and friend. Maureen had an outstanding  way of making me feel so special. I miss our conversations and giggles over our front doorsteps. I could never get tired of hearing “I’m proud of you, kid!”
She lifted me up and made me feel like a superhero for working as a teacher and raising my boys.  Having her positivity in my daily life meant the world to me.

You had a heart of gold & such an amazing sweet lady. It didn't matter if we hadn't seen each other for a day or 3 years. You always picked right back up from where we left off. You always treated my kids as they were your own biological grandchildren, ALWAYS!! I truly will be forever thankful for that. You

Sweet Grandma. We may not have been blood but We sure did love you as if we were.  Thank you for always wishing and wanting the best for Danny and I. Grandma Mo (GIGI) you always new how to enjoy the moments in life and always down for good time. I remember many adventures like when we went to the Florida Georgia Line concert which was also Nevaeh's first concert. We had such a good time just singing our hearts put and dancing!!

A memory can remember was the first concert we attended togther seeing Florida Georgia Line. It was also my daughter's first concert she's ever been to. Grandma knew how to get down and enjoy life no matter anytime and anywhere!!

Oh sweet grandma, one of my favorite memories including you was always the phones calls and FaceTimes while I was in Missouri. You always made my smile and laugh when we got to chat. & you always always check in with the girls and I. At any event I was blessed to attend with you, YOU made me feel welcomed, loved, and included. You were the helping hands that I needed many many times. Thanks to jumping up to grab adie out of the pool, holding my sleeping rori, handling my crazy Baylor, but most of all for loving my sweet Taylor and P their whole life. We all promise to take of them. Hold the fort down for us. Give heaven some hell! 

A large part of my childhood was spent in Mo's Bonita home.  I vividly remember the wall to wall carpet, the dim lighting,the mirrored room.  Many friendships were formed with her original big screen in the background. I remember the excitement as someone would pass by the window and up to the door.  Trips to Campland, Las Vegas and more.  Alot of girls called her Mom, always there to listen and give adult advise to a bunch of rookies.  I'm grateful for her love and friendship.  She will never be forgotten. I love you Mo.  We got Steph!

Maureen's daughter Stephanie has been in my life a very long time. When I flew back to California one year, Taylor and I stopped by her grandmothers house. What a house. There were colors, art,  electric energy and then some. Maureen was so lively and funny. I thought "I want to be like her when Im older".  Every year I visited she was nothing short of sweet. 
I know her memory is going to be legendary for those who were blessed to know her.

Momma Maureen was the 2nd Mom for all us girls growing up! She always had a special way of listening to us and gave us advice about those stinkin boys!  Special things I remember of are of her coolest house, swinging chairs, animal print, jacuzzi time, rides to Rollerskateland and camping trips to Campland on the Bay during the 4th of July. I’m sure my brother John welcomed her home up there!  Keep watch over us, pray for this crazy world until we meet again!  Love you Mom Mo! All my love Missy… PS Give that brother of mine a hug!

I'm so glad I got to spend so many wonderful years with you in my life. You were such an amazing person and one of the best mothers and grandma's I've ever met. Your love and kindness always radiated through the room. You always knew how to have a good time and I have so many great memories with you. Thank you for being the best GG to Peytynn. I know you had a huge impact on her life and we will cherish those memories for the rest of our lives. You are missed every single day and we love you!!! 

I have so many wonderful memories. The most fun boat races and golf tournaments. She was and will always be the life of the party. Kindest heart, so loving and giving. Loved to dance, with a passion for life and bright colors. Till we see you again, thank you for loving us like your own. 

Mo was such a caring,  loving person.  When I first moved here from AZ. I was nervous,  didn't know very many people. Mo made me feel welcome.  We went on a few motorcycle overnighter camping trips.  I also remember we were yard sale shopping,  Mo knew I loved blue glass,  there was a beautiful vase I wanted but was a little over my budget, she surprised me and went and bought it for me.   It was only $5.00 but to me it meant so much.  I still have the vase and think about her everytime I look at it. Mo always wanted to make sure I felt comfortable. Wonderful beautiful soul. I will never forget her.❤

Mo! You were my sunshine when life was dark. I lost my mom at 15. You were my cheerleader through life. You were my friend, my person to call. My heart breaks every time I want to call you and chat…. Everyday. Everyday I will celebrate you and the love we have together… you are not gone.. you are in my heart and soul. You are now and have always been an Angel. Fly my beautiful Mo. I love you! I met her one night when Stephanie invited me to join them. WOW! Micki had such a presence, she was so much fun and so kind to be around. Although I had just met her, she made me feel like I had known her for ever. What a great lady!!  You will be missed. God bless your soul and blessing to those who are still on this earth missing you. Thank you Jesus for her legacy she left.

As I made my return to California, after being gone for more than 20 years, I was welcomed back by this amazing family unit!! Maureen was still that same caring, compassionate, giving, fun loving, beautiful soul that I remembered, except that it was intensified, because she was now a grandmother! The love and support that she exhibited for her family, and friends, was endless! I was lucky enough to be a part of that in the last few years of her life, as she was so sweet, supportive and compassionate towards me, as I was trying to settle back into my new life back home. Lots of laughs and good times with Mo, that I will hold dear in my heart! She will be missed tremendously!! Stephanie, Taylor and Zach, thank you for sharing your mother and grandmother with us! She was, and is, very proud of you all! One last thing, something we have in common, that I just found out after doing my DNA, I am half Irish!! So, now, along with your family, I will do my best to celebrate your favorite holiday, in honor of you and your memory. Rest in peace Maureen! ❤❤❤

Another story about my Mom was her bowling.  She would spend hours and hours in the bowling alleys.  Every Monday night we were at the alley.  That is where my Mom met my Step Dad, Bobby.  We would be at the bowling alley for all hours of the night, even slept in the chairs. (Bringing two chairs together and grabbed a jacket and nighty night)  The good ole times!  
She received many awards for ballroom dancing! 
Her role as mother and grandmother, which was the most important thing to Mom. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Being with her family and friends was what Mom enjoyed most of all. Her life had many obstacles, and she struggles over the years. Yet through it all, her love and caring for her family and friends remained her focus, and in so many, many ways, she was able to show that love to us. This perseverance through adversity is a powerful lesson for us, and I believe it is her legacy. What a wonderful lesson she gave us. Keep your priorities straight. Keep what is most important in focus! Love and care for your family! Let them know in all the ways you can show them that you love them. Don’t let adversities, setbacks, or any of the distractions of the world keep you from this most important aspect of life. 
Mom was a young 80 years old when she passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 27 right here in Bonita. It is hard to say goodbye. We wish that we had more time. While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are at an end, there is pain and sadness. However, even though she is gone, she has left the legacy of her love and perseverance. 
Best way to honor my mom and to keep her beautiful spirit alive is to share your memories and or stories with me and with one another today.
Mom lived her life like a teenager and so should you!  Enjoy each moment of life and share the love you have for others OFTEN!  


Mom had 2 brothers, Dr. John L. Hickey, he was ordain to become a priest but later found his calling as a podiatrist and Fredrick F. Hickey was awarded Purple Heart and Silver Star in Navy. Her Mother, Helen D. Erickson, was a civilian nurse for the Naval Hospital and later started a foster home for the juvenile courts. Her Father, John Joseph Hickey, was a pianist. He graduate from Julliard School of Music and later became friends and went on to play with Liberace. I had the honor to meet Liberace with my mother in 1983 in Long Beach, California. Mom leaves behind her Grand Daughter Taylor, her grandson Zachary and her pride and joy, Great Grand Daughter, Peytynn.

Let me tell you, My Mom, Maureen was the kindest, most loving person I have ever known. She was THAT person that lite up a room when she walked in.   She mothered everyone, so much so, that my friends would often call her Mom. She took this as a compliment and never shied away from being there for others who needed support in one way or another. As I was an only child, my mother did not want to raise me alone so along the way she adopted most of my friends.  –Adrienne, Shandell, Heidi, Kelly, Karen, Kristin, Tina, and Joy. That was just the beginning.  As you began to know my Mom, the closer you became, the more infections she became.

Mom was never one for sadness and tears, in fact, she would tell me “Dummy up, Stephanie”  “You Got This!!” “Don’t cry, that is a waste of energy! DO something about it” 

So Today, I stand in front of you, DOING something about it—telling you about my best friend! 

Let me tell you a story about one of the craziest moments of my childhood.  It was Christmas time and Mom was enjoy the spike eggnog as she was decorating the Christmas tree.  This was about 11:30 at night.  As she stands back and looks at the tree she says, “something is missing, the tree needs to be fuller”.  So at Midnight, my mother went outside, grabbed her chainsaw and started cutting branches off the pine tree in the back yard and begins to drag them in the house and stand them up behind the tree.  A few more branches come through the door and then and there she says, “Now the tree is perfect”.  That is just one of the memories of my Mom.

This week, as we said goodbye to Grandma, it hit me how incredibly lucky I have been to have my lovely grandmother with me for 27 years. 
She wasn’t just my grandma, she was my best friend! As times were tough throughout my childhood, she was my rock through it all. Never turning away but instead always pushing me to do more than I though I was capable of. She shaped me to become the Mother, wife, and person I am today. 
 She was selfless, Caring, Thoughtful, Loving, Kind-hearted, Gentle, Generous, Humorous but most of all supportive. She was my number one cheerleader through anything and everything. Always routing for the best and at every event to support us. 
We shared so many memories together, from spontaneous trips to Disneyland, camp land on the bay, St. patty’s day parades, to just driving around getting lost and signing our hearts out. But the best was watching my grandma become GG to my daughter. The bond they had was indescribable.  From the day she was born that was her buddy! Always showing up with a treat in her hand and sneaking it behind my back laughing together,  to their little dance party’s around the house. She was always so quick to get down on the floor and play with her even when it hurt. She was there ever step of the way as my daughter has grown, just like she was for me. These are the memories I will cherish and hold onto forever. 
Doing life without your calls, frequent weekend visits, and calls about ordering your groceries, will be hard, but I promise I will do my best to keep you proud as you always told me you were. I will stand strong and dummy up through the hard times and remember there’s a rainbow after every storm. I’ll see you once it’s my time, but for now, keep watch over P as she misses you so much!
