Nancy Ann Prettyman, wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to all, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, at the age of 100. She is survived by her twin sons, Terry and Gary, their wives Sally and Nina, granddaughters Tristan and Kari, and four great grandchildren, Kylo, Ruby, Rosie and Rachel. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born in San Francisco, California, on November 25, 1924 to Elias and Mary Habeeb, she moved with her family in 1930 to Corpus Christi, Texas. After marrying Martin Prettyman, a Navy pilot, the family lived in several different states before finally moving to Chula Vista, California in 1958, where she lived for the rest of her life. After their divorce, Nancy worked for 30 years at General Dynamics Convair, and was a devoted mother to her two beloved boys.
Nancy was the life of every party and was a member of the American Swing Dance Club, which was her favorite hobby. She also loved traveling, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, she just loved life!
Despite many health and physical challenges during her later years, she celebrated every day as a gift, and squeezed as much joy out of life as possible. Her fierce independence and self-confidence allowed her to live alone and still drive, even after she turned 100 years old!
Another favorite activity of hers was going to the casino, where it was not about the money, but about being around people and having fun. In her later years, as so many of her friends had passed away before her, it became a place where she could feel connected to others in a party atmosphere. That’s why she chose to have her 100th birthday celebration with family and friends at her favorite place, Barona Casino.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her five siblings, sisters Hannah and Evelyn and brothers Emil, John, and William. Besides her children and grandchildren, she left behind an abundance of nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful friends and very kind neighbors.
Mom, you will deeply missed, never forgotten, and loved forever. And through our tears we will always remember your favorite saying - “KEEP SMILING!!”
