Nestor “Nick” Malagueño Conda was born on January 4, 1935, in Legazpi, Albay, Philippines. He came to the US in 1957 and served in the United States Navy for 22 years as a machinist - ranked as Chief Petty Officer, and served in the Vietnam War. After military retirement, he continued working in civil service as a ship surveyor for SUPSHIP. After which, he took on the role of caretaker for his wife, Linda who predeceased him in 2012.
He was an avid sports fan, but his heart could be found on the tennis courts. Nick was a handyman; a true MacGyver who could fix anything with a roll of duct tape. On Sundays, he could be found serving in the Apostles Choir at Saint Michael Parish’s 11:30am Mass. Other times, he could be found at Barona Casino at the Poker table with a margarita in hand.
Nick was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, and most importantly, a devoted husband of 48 years. Nick passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, in San Diego, California after battling a short illness.
Nick is survived by his children: Kim (Poten), Mark (Beatriz), Nelin (Ronie), and James; grandchildren Ronnel, Ryan, Kayla, Cameron, Phoebe, Matthew, and Brandon, and great granddaughter Adelyn; siblings Fidencia, Orlando, Anacorita, Natividad, Rebecca, and Nellie; nephews, nieces, and many extended family and friends. He will be truly missed by all.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Glen Abbey Memorial Park – Magnolia Room, with Vigil Service and Rosary at 5:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at St. Michael Catholic Church followed by burial at Glen Abbey.
