Dad,

I can’t believe it’s been 6 years already. I miss you everyday but know you’re in a better place. Today is a particularly hard day for us because we will also be saying goodbye to another beloved member of our family, our dog Max. I know you and grandma will be there to meet him and welcome him into paradise where he can run and play, cancer free again. We love and miss you and honor your memory today.

It’s been 5 years since you’ve passed and it still feels like just yesterday. Just the thought of you and knowing you’re not here brings tears to my eyes. You were the best dad and a great man. You were a friend to all and I know you are with us always. Grandma is now nearing the end of her journey here on earth with us. I know you will be there to welcome her into heaven. She was always a mother to you and the bond you shared was so special. Take care of each other and we will all be together again one day.

Can’t believe it’s been 4 years today that you left us for a better place. I know you’re happy and at peace but I miss you so much, we all do. I was so privileged to have you for a father. I often wonder what we’d be doing together if you were still here. Sharing memories with others keeps your memory alive and I’m grateful for that. You were one of a kind and I love you so much!

Dear Dad,

I can’t believe it’s already been 3 years. I miss you so much and my eyes well up with tears just at the thought of you.  We all talk about you often and your sense of humor is sorely missed. You have come to us in dreams, they seem so real and I don’t want to wake up because then I’ll know you’re really gone. I know it sounds cliche but I know you really are in a better place and one day we’ll be together again!

My most beloved father,

I can’t believe it’s been 2 years since you have passed. It still hurts just as much as the day it happened. We think of you every day and miss you more than ever. Danny still has a hard time dealing with your loss and is inconsolable at times. I see him in you when he gives a certain look or in his mannerisms and I’m thankful for that. I can only hope and pray he grows up to be a wonderful man like you were. I saw the beautiful message from someone you knew so long ago and it’s not surprising. You always left a lasting impression on those you knew. Thank you for being my hero and the amazing father you were! I am truly blessed and don’t take that for granted. I know you are watching over us and I look forward to being with you again!

I knew Patrick as a Navy Corpsman and as a Psychiatric Tech/Nurse after the military. Many years ago he was a good friend.  He visited me several times after the Navy when I was a student. He was kind and a faithful friend. I am very sorry for your loss. 


Patrick was a well loved man and blessed to have so many who cared for him.  To survive the life of an orphanage without rancor and then to love and be loved by so many - what a life story.  He was deeply loved as a brother by my brother, Greg Gardner, for many years.  Oh, to see them laugh together, discuss politics, eat together and share friendships with co-workers was a treasure.  Perhaps now they are together again in Heaven - everyone up there watch out because they will have the "room' laughing and listening before long.  I am so grateful that Norma and her wonderful family brought the love he so wanted and needed in his life.  And Yugo.....we all know Yugo...and how much Patrick loved him.  The Gardner family (my father,  Robert, my mother, Aline, Greg and I, considered Patrick 'family' ...and I hope they reunite in delight and love where ever they are tonight.  Thank you for sharing him with the world which is a little less gentle without him today.   Patrick was truly one of kind....a kind, loving, patient man.  How he will be missed.  Perhaps his gentleness with inspire those of us who remain behind.

A week ago today I lost you & it seems like it was yesterday. I found a picture of the two of us on Christmas morning when I was so small. You can see the pure joy on my face,  amazed at all of my presents with you looking on. Throughout the years you’ve always been a part of all holiday gatherings & celebrations. They won’t be the same without you there. I love you & miss you so much. I’m so lucky God blessed me with a wonderful, loving father.

Patrick was a great man - loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  I remember some 29 or so years ago when my mom first told me she was dating this "hunk" she met at work.   He was everything on her list: handsome, respectful, smart, caring and just all put together.  Then I met Patrick and I could see what she meant.  I could tell he was tentative at first while he slowly got to know our big and crazy family.  He once told me he probably should have run away given how big our family is (my mom is the oldest of 8 and she has 4 of us kids, plus we literally have dozens - maybe hundreds - of aunties, uncles, and cousins) but he loved her very much and was hooked.  Now looking back, I just want to say thank you, Patrick, for being a grounding and loving force in our family.  You and mom created a home  where we would all feel comfortable to come for the weekends, holidays  and birthdays year after year.  You made mom happy and loved each of us.  You were the only grandpa my kids knew on my side and you saw me through some seriously tough stuff.  You were one of the best human beings I've ever known.  I admire, respect and love you very much for showing us what true strength and love is.  Despite being raised in an orphanage and not being adopted until a teenager, you knew what family meant and showed us every day how we should treat each other.   You were always there for us to give encouragement, wisdom and cash.  PS: thanks to you and Mom for supporting me as a single mom going to college full-time while working full-time.  I'll never forget the times you paid for medicine my kids needed,  let me "shop" for things I needed in your pantry,  let me do laundry and hang out at your house over the weekends,  told me funny stories,  took us camping,  and shared your political views (which I share with you!).  I like to think I finally made you proud when I graduated and turned my life around.  Thank you for everything.

Dad, there are so many things I wish I could have told you and thanked you for. You were always there for me, even when you did not have to. You loved me and always made me feel welcomed. You gave me something I never had and I will always be grateful for that. You are the only father I’ve known and I will miss you so much. Hearing your stories from Campo and the Hall are part of the reason I wanted to work there.  I wish I could have had more time with you.  The girls and I are going to miss you so much.  I know you are in peace now. Love you so so much.

My grandpa was a great man. from his death I feel sad I will miss the way he made laugh and taking me out for dinner. He taught me how to give a proper handshake. I’ll miss taking walks with him and yogo at the park by his house. I love you grandpa and I’ll remember it’s okay to cry. Love your only grandson and your mini me, Danny

Grandpa , you’re the greatest man I know. I can’t thank you enough for being there for me all the time  . You always had the best advice and the best stories to tell . From picking me up from school , going out to eat , movies , zoos , Del Mar fair , bday phone calls, even riding bikes for miles at one point to even just sitting and watching crime documentaries with the dogs on our laps  - I can go on forever , but you know .  I love you and I’ll always miss you , your chicken Alexandra (Lexi) 

Dad, you were and always will be the greatest man in my life. Thank you for being a great example to me and to my children. You were the best father and grandfather and will be missed dearly. I’ll miss your dry sense of humor, your understanding and tight hugs. I’m going to miss your annual phone call to me of you singing happy birthday to me. I know you’re finally at peace & find comfort in knowing that I’ll see you again someday. I love you so much, your ormigita.
