Peter Bernard Stead

Pete Stead, age 87, of Chula Vista, California, passed away after a long battle with a pulmonary disease, on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

Pete was a third generation San Diegan, born on August 17, 1936. He was the oldest of six children. He graduated Lincoln High School in 1953 and spent 8 years in the Coast Guard Reserves, which enabled him to attend S.D.S.U. to study Environmental Sciences and Chemistry. He worked at Testing Engineers

for 7 years and then became co-owner and head Chemist at Clarkson Laboratory and Supply for 24 years. After selling his part of the business, he lovingly spent his later years driving a school bus for special needs students through the Chula Vista Elementary School District. This was by far, his favorite job, where students, their parents and teachers loved him. In his retirement, he selflessly became his wife's sole caregiver until her final days.

In 1959, Pete married the love of his life Patricia (Marshall). He was also a loving father of three daughters. Second only to God, was his family, which he enjoyed spending time with, whether it was going to the beach, camping, traveling or just being at home. When their children grew up, they continued their love of travel by cruising to foreign countries together.

Pete was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Chula Vista for 53 years. His involvement included, The Parish Bazaar, Fourth of July Campout, Marriage Encounter, teaching Marriage Preparation classes and attending Bible Studies.

Pete is survived by his daughters; Rhonda Glibbery (Nigel), Jennifer Brown (Joe), Amanda Nelson (James), 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, his sister Penny and brother Jim.

Pete is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Patricia, his parents; Francis Bernard Stead and Eileen Young, his brother Paul, and twin siblings; Patrick, and Patricia.

Vigil and Rosary will be Tuesday October 24th at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday October 25th at 11 am. Both will be held at St. Pius X Church 1120 Cuyamaca Ave. Chula Vista, CA 91911. A luncheon reception will be held at the church immediately following the funeral. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum, 4470 Hilltop Dr, San Diego, CA 92102, on October 25th at 2:30 pm, following the lunch reception. All are welcome!
