

Ray was born in Los Angeles and raised in Norwalk, California. In 1974, Ray and his wife, Lorraine, moved to Chula Vista to provide a better life for their son, Garrard. He worked as a teacher for Chula Vista Elementary School District for 35 years before retiring in 2008. In addition to serving as a dedicated teacher, Ray was a beloved youth sports coach. He started coaching baseball at Chula Vista National Little League and served as League President. Ray devoted many years and countless hours coaching the boys’ basketball team at Chula Vista High School and supported the CVHS baseball and football teams throughout the years.
Ray will be remembered for his dedication to his family, generous spirit, and great sense of humor.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Lorraine. He is survived by his son, Garrard Galvan (Michelle); granddaughters, Maya and Ava; and his brother, Alex (Joan).
A memorial mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Chula Vista on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 2:00 pm with a reception immediately following.
