We all love Uncle Rene in many ways and for many reasons, but what was constant is that Uncle loved whole-heartedly and to the BEST of his ability. 

For example:
- Uncle Rene was the best Celtics fan since the time of his favorite player, Larry Bird. In a house and family full of Lakers fans, he still remained loyal to his Boston Celtics.
- Similarly, Uncle was the BEST chargers fan. Not only did he sport Chargers blue and yellow colors on his Mercedes, he even had us paint the inside of his house Chargers colors. When I first moved to the states, my welcome gift was a Tomlinson jersey. 

- Uncle Rene was the best beef jerky maker. He knew we loved it so much that whenever any of us cousins visited San Diego, he would have pounds of beef jerky ready for us. Whenever I went out to Sea, he had a bag for me. He even had them as party favors for mine and Kevin’s wedding. 
- Uncle was the best brother to his siblings. He helped send my Dad to school and set him up for a bright future. He was my Dad’s Best Man at my parent’s wedding. 
- Uncle was the best Dad to my Ate Joanne and Kuya Vince. All of his hard work was for them. He loved them so much. 
- Uncle was the best Grandfather. He was their favorite person to take them to school. Maybe because it came with a complimentary breakfast. He did his best to stay healthy as long as he could, so he can see his grandchildren grow. Papa Rene was Janelle’s best friend, and it was the cutest thing. 

- Uncle Rene was the best husband to my Auntie Mercie. He was her best shopping partner, accompanying her at the NEX and Commissary every weekend after church. Even occasionally at Macys. He was the best walking partner walking side by side for miles and miles in Coronado. And of course, He was the best ballroom dancing partner.
- When my Dad passed, my Dad knew that my Uncle Rene was the best man for the job. No matter where I was stationed or how long I’ve been gone, Uncle Rene was mine and my brother’s home away from home. 
- As a coworker, shipmate, friend, or family, Simply put, my Uncle Rene was the best. He loved us to the best of his ability and loved us to the fullest. 
- God saw that, he witnessed it. and now it’s time for Uncle Rene to be God’s best angel. 
- Rest In Peace, Uncle. We love you.

Uncle Rene always lit up the room and the dance floor. He never failed to make me laugh. I only wish I spent more time with him. I remember him and Auntie Mercy opening up and lighting up the dance floor at my wedding. Many of my friends were so impressed, they even commented to me about how good my family (aka Uncle Rene and Auntie Mercy) were at dancing. I’m glad to have had at least one dance with him. 

Love you and miss you, Uncle Rene. Thank you for all your love, for being there for me when my dad/your Kuya died, and for sending me and Ryan your awesome beef jerky! Keep on dancing up in heaven. Hope you and my dad will have many laughs together.

Good Evening, 

     I'm Joshua, the second grandson of Rene. My grandpa was a great man and one of my biggest inspirations as well as one of the reasons why I joined the navy in the first place. Although I didn't know much about his time in the navy it was still enough motivation for me. I will never forget the things he told me when it came to the navy, he told me things like the navy is easy or like when he told me that if i fall asleep on watch and someone catches me i can use the excuse that i'm practicing my religion and praying.

     My grandpa was the best, from things like taking us to the bowling alley on 32nd or just hanging out with us at the house. These are just a couple things that I'll never forget about. I really wish there was more time that we can spend with you. I really wish you were here physically to see me turn 21 or when I returned from my first deployment whenever that may be. To be truthful I really wish I was able to give you that Chargers jersey you always wished for. You had asked me about getting you one a while back but i wasn't able to get you one, but just know grandpa the chargers are gonna make it this season same thing with the padres. I know you will always be watching over me. I miss you alot grandpa, thank you.

I learned many things from my dad. He showed me how to ride a bike, he taught me how to play baseball and basketball, he taught me how to change the oil in my car, he showed me the importance of honesty and loyalty and he represented what hard work and dedication meant when it came to his work ethic, all of these things are good things to learn but the one thing I cherish the most from what he had taught me was how to fish. Early on when we first started fishing, I remember him always waking me up early in the morning during the summer to go fish for mackerel at one of our local piers, we would be fishing everyday during the summer sometimes even taking my mom with us and staying at the pier overnight. There were a lot of days where it would be just me and him the whole day just hanging out at the pier, sometimes we would talk, most of the time we wouldn’t, but we would spend all day together fishing. I can also remember every year celebrating my birthday at point loma and fishing on the beach with my cousins and of course my dad would be somewhere around probably grilling burgers and hanging out with my uncles, but we were there so I could fish. I’m guessing he saw how much I loved to fish, and he took that and ran. Eventually we moved up to fishing on the deep-sea boats. I remember when it was time to eat, he would go into his backpack and take out what looked like a wad of paper towel and handed it to me in front of everyone. While everyone was eating cheeseburgers fresh from the galley, we would be eating his specialty pandesal with corned beef and onions dipped in egg then fried (Those who know, know what I’m talking about) I was a lil bit embarrassed about my wad of paper towel with pandesal, but I didn’t care, if you tried one of them you wouldn’t care either. Those were some of the best times I had with my dad and that went on for a few years. 

When high school came around, I started hanging out with friends and having interest in girls so we wouldn’t go as much and eventually it stopped. Many years passed and as a young adult I was always finding myself in disagreement with my dad, almost to the point where we would never talk. I felt so far away from him. He would reach out and we would have talks about what was going on with me, yet he would always tell me that he loved me. He wasn’t like the dads you see on tv all perfect and openly expressive, he expressed his feelings in his own way and that was by not expressing his feelings at all. I know its not the best way, but I knew he loved me because no matter what I would do, good or bad, he was always there. He never gave up on our relationship through thick and thin he showed me dedication and resilience by always being there. Eventually I would pick up fishing again this time obsessively fishing everyday sometimes calling into work just to fish. I would always come home, and my dad would be there to see what I caught but he never asked me why I’m not at work, he would ask “What did I catch?” or “Can I give some to whomever?” and before even answering his question he’d proceed with calling that person and telling them ”Punta ka dito, ang dami isda na huli ni bince” I hate the fact that he’s gone, and I couldn’t show him just how much he meant to me. He is everything a dad is to a son and some. I miss him every day and I can’t stop thinking about what he said to me last, He asked me to take him fishing the Saturday before he passed, and I told him “When I get off on Monday we will go” when I got off that Monday morning it was too late. My mom and sister took him to the ER late the night before and so when I got home, he wasn’t there. 

I took a nap and when I woke up me, my mom and sister went to the hospital to discuss my dad’s condition with the medical team. As much as we knew the day would come, I don’t think you can ever prepare for when the doctor says, “He only has days to weeks left”. Me my dad, mom and sister talked in the room, a few jokes were said by my dad and a few concerns were brought up and then my dad said to me “I guess we can’t go fishing” He looked at me with a desperate smile as we left the hospital that day and I never heard his voice again. His life, his influence, his energy is forever linked to mine, and I accept that. I take comfort in knowing that my dad is no longer in pain. That suffering is no longer something he has to endure. My dad will forever be in my heart until the day it stops beating. And I am grateful that I’m becoming a more responsible, present and compassionate person because of my dad.

My grandpa was the chillest man ever. But I guess I know what side I got it from. I'll always remember the times when he would be in front of my house with the yellow Mercedes at 6:45am. He would drop me off at school in the morning, and my grandpa would bring me the same breakfast every day. either breakfast, corn dogs, Nature Valley bars, or waffles. And I loved it. Yeah, sometimes I will be tired of getting the same thing every time, but I'm so grateful to him. He put so much effort into me, for me to go to school with something in my stomach. When growing up, I would stay at my grandparents' house. I remember those times when my grandpa would watch me and my brothers play in the backyard. There was this one year during Halloween. My grandpa took out the vampire toy that sang "this is Halloween" and it would terrify me. I just remember my grandpa laughing at me for being scared of toys. I'm really going to miss his laugh, his voice, him in general. But he gets to rest now. I'm so proud of him for dealing with his pain. He's the strongest man I know. Don't worry grandpa, I'll take care of grandma for you. You could rest now. Love you. Come visit me if you can. Thank you

Dear Dad, 
I wish I got to tell you that you are my hero. I admire your strength, courage, and bravery. We knew the chemo, radiation, and clinical trials weren’t going to cure your cancer but we always had hope.  During these past few years, I thought we were helping YOU in your time of need.  But I realize, it was the other way around.  You were the one that got us through these rough few years.  While you were sick, you downplayed how much pain you were in so we wouldn’t be sad.  You also never showed us how scared you were, so we wouldn’t worry.  You were always in good spirits and that made it easy to support your journey. We never gave up hope as long as you had fight in you and you fought hard till your last breath. 
 Being involved in your dr visits, helped me cope with what was to come.  You tried to prepare me for your death, but I wasn’t prepared for the heartache that would come afterwards. The time we had together was not enough.   Dad, I’m sorry for all the times we butt heads when I was younger. As I grew older, I realized it’s because we’re both headstrong.  Even though Mom would call it “stubborn”.  I’ll miss walking into the house hearing ESPN on the tv, I’ll miss all your jokes, and like everyone else, of course I’ll miss your homemade beef jerky. 

I’ll miss watching you bond with Jay, Joshua, Jordan and Janelle. You’ve been a rock in their lives for them to count on and you’ve also shown them what true strength is.  I miss you so much but I know you are in a better place now with no suffering or pain.  

Please watch over us and visit me in my dreams just don’t play around and scare me.  Thank you for loving me unconditionally. Life will never be the same without you. I love you and I’ll forever be missing you.

you know, grandpa was a very caring person. i remember when joshua and i were kids he used to take us to the navy exchange on 32nd to get mcdonald’s and pretzels. i had this obsession with your biscotti and i would always end up eating the whole bag. btw, it does taste better when you dip it in coffee

when i was in high school, he would wake me up every morning to get ready for school, he would make me a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on pan de sal and he would have me drive to the bus stop. every sunday night, you and grandma would go dancing at 32nd street bowling alley and you would take me to the arcade and buy me bacon cheese burgers

you were always interested in my car and all my dancing and when i would play golf. you were always excited to see new videos and you believed i would be the next tiger woods and win millions. 

now i’m not sure if i can do that but i know you always believed in me. i do know what i’m going to do though.

i’m going to finish school for you and i’m going to finish building my car for you and i’m going to always play my best golf for you. Ill be grandmas new dance partner, even though i wont be as good as you. i’m going to miss you so much and i love you so much Grandpa. please sleep well and make sure you tell everyone about your legendary beef jerky

I feel the need to celebrate Kuya Rene’s life and his accomplishments as a compassionate, generous and a family man. A great humanitarian who had given  the shirt off of his back to help others in need. I would like to celebrate his life through remembrance. Please, let me take you on a journey and my interactions with Kuya Rene throughout the years and decades. I arrived from the Philippines to the States were filled with anxiousness. Back then I had wondered how my life would unfold. I was worried about where I would live. To Kuya Rene  this was never an issue.. no hesitation… he accepted me in his home. It is because of this I am very grateful. My interactions with Kuya Rene was someone who is quiet, reserved and love sports. He welcomed my parents Sabel, Gullier, and my siblings Danny, Celia and others into his home For this I am very grateful. Kuya Rene also mentored and role model to other kids. He had a good relationship with my son Christopher and was there when he was born, along with my husband. He allowed me to use his home to babysit the many kids . For this I’m very grateful. The most  precious moments that stood out was every Valentine’s Day.. in which he would give roses to my sister Mercy his wife and his daughter Joanne. He was a man who loved his wife and kids Joanne, Vince and his grandkids. . A pure example of a loving man. He was not perfect but the fact that like some of us he kept trying in being  a better person. Kuya Rene  you are in heaven now because God want you at your best. I feel you are with with us today with your amazing family…. Kuya Renes’ spirit will live on because he has touched each and every one of us in special way. I’m sure Kuya Rene wants us to continue  todo good things to others and share those moments. I am touched and his life will live on through us.  Kuya Rene we’ll miss you and thank you for everything and acceptance of me and my family. For this……  I am very grateful. Thank you. 

Earlier today, I received a text message from  Rene’s former co-worker at the Postoffice and one of his closest friends, Fabian Tucker, telling me the good news that the VA awarded him 100 percent on his disability benefits. This was made possible because of all the help and support and persistent push of Rene to have him pursue his claims with the VA. Now this new found wealth allows him to consider retiring early from the Postoffice . He would like to extend his sincere gratitude and appreciation  to Rene for unselfishly sharing his experience and knowledge to help fellow veterans to better themselves. So you see, even in death, Rene continuously brings joy and happiness to  everyone. 
     Rene and I have a lot of things in common. We’re both retired military (Navy), both retired from the Postoffice, both came from the same province of Bataan in the Philippines, ( he’s from Orion. I’m from Bagac) and we both live in the same street  (Terra Cotta Rd). We live five houses apart. Rene had been there my whole Postal career, so he left a void when he decided to retire  in 2020. He was one of the hardest working person I had the privilege to know and worked with. He was totally dedicated to his craft as a mailman and make delivering mail looks so easy. I once asked him how he does it and he told me that he’s just treating it like doing his daily work out. And getting paid doing it. Rene was a man of few words. He’s more of an observant than a talker. And when he speaks and says something, you’d remember it. Because he was honest, he was direct and he always tell the truth.He was the bravest person I’ve known, he displayed an incredible amount of courage in the face of any adversity. Mercy, Vince , Joanne and his grandkids are the center of his life, and I’m the living witness of how passionately he constantly talked about them. They were his world. I’m gonna miss you my friend, and above all I’m gonna miss your call to come pick up the fish that your son Vince caught.

One time I visited him, he picked me up from the airport in a Lexus. I said I didn’t know he has a new car, I asked where his yellowBenz was. In a split second, he replied. “Nandyan pa, kung gusto mo sayo na. It’s still there, if you want it, you can have it” Now my son drives it; he’s trying to save the mileage so his almost 1 yr old son Lio, can fiddle with it. 

Remembering and celebrating your life.   Thank you for the wonderful memories.  You will be missed…..

I know that nothing I say or do can ease the pain of losing Rene. A husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and a friend to many. I have known and worked with Rene for almost sixteen years as a mail carrier at the Riverfront Carrier Annex, located at the heart of Mission Valley, Rene was a dedicated professional who always strive to do his best in any given situation or circumstances. If you’re an outsider looking in, this job may look easy. And it definitely takes one to know one. A mail carrier’s job is not for the faint of hearts, and it’s probably one of the hardest job anyone can do. It’s physically, emotionally and mentally draining , so I don’t have anything but absolute respect for anyone who’s doing this brutal and back breaking job, day in and day out in all kinds of weather. Rene was  a hardworking guy who  can give the young mail carriers a run for their money. And He abhors some carriers who does little and complains a lot. And most of the time, people on the ODL ( like himself) gets to  carry the burden and pick up their slack. That’s why a lot of his fellow mail carriers gave him their utmost  respect because he never complained and just do his usual business every day. Rene  was also a Family man. He was so proud of his family. He talks highly of his wife, his kids and his grandchildren.  In fact, long before I met them personally, it feels like I’ve know them forever because he would constantly talked about them. And that’s how I would like to remember him. A really Good, Decent, Down to earth Human Being. 
As hard and painful for all of us to see Rene finally gone, it’s comforting to know that at least, he was no longer in pain. For God had chosen  and brought him  HOME to a better and peaceful place. Go rest in eternal peace, my friend. You have fought a good fight, You have finished the race, and You have kept the Faith.

“Rene P.”has been a great friend and a confidant. Having both retired from the US Navy, we both shared “sea stories” which sometimes took us back to years of adventure mostly comedic. 
Rene was a graceful dance partner whom everyone looks forward to dancing with. 
In promoting stronger friendship and camaraderie, we launched the “Circle of Friends” dance group where Rene was an avid supporter. Rene gave his 110% support in his desire to help the abused and less fortunate children of the Philippines through the “Bantay Bata” program in a successful fundraising ballroom dancing.
Rene may be gone from our sight, but never in our hearts.

Kuya Rene will be terribly missed and will forever be in our hearts.   Ate Mercie, Vince, Joanne and family, our sincerest condolences, you will continue to be in our prayers.

I can't seem to find words how to start. But here it is.
Uncle Rene or Tío Rene but growing up he has been in younger generation of the Pizarro's so I was accustomed to just calling Kuya Rene. I started Navy boot camp in San Diego Recruit Training Command (RTC). I was so oblivious of what is in store for my life when I joined from Subic Naval Base in Olongapo City. With no one on site, and no one i knew in San Diego, CA.  It was a very surprising visit of Kuya Rene,  a normal routine on Sundays that recruits get to attend our preferred church, hence, a Catholic chapel in RTC.
Words were passed in whispers all the way to the front where I was sitting, "Recruit Pizarro, you have a base police looking for you at the back of the church".  All recruits and including myself were so afraid, like dogs with tails tucked behind the legs, Kuya Rene AKA Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Rene Pizarro was looking for me by the doors of the chapel. Commotion got bigger and louder and the mass panic sensed at this situation. That was June of 1989; now 33 years to be exact. The rest is now history.
Kuya Rene, you will be missed immensely. Look down on all of us as you have looked out for me when I was in Navy Recruit Boot Camp. Rest in heavenly peace. We love you!

My brother, Sangko Rene and I would have disagreements, but at the end of the day our love for a sibling remains. That Love is not diminished by them! 
In his own little ways he showed his love to all of us, to all his nieces and nephews, no exception . 
Although we will miss him sorely, we rest in the thought that he is now in a place where there’s no more suffering, no pains.

I remember our fun times back in mid ‘90s, Kuya Rene & Ate Mercie enjoyed going to the dance, so they would give Tony & I (with Allison @ 6 y/o then) a ride to Club Metro for our weekend dance lessons given by Yowza. Then, we continued on to carpool with them every Friday nights @ the 32nd for more social dancing.  I will also miss the family gatherings at their house each time there was a Pacquaio fight, which we all enjoyed our bets & cheered on every Round.  I will also miss his spontaneous invites at his house whenever he cooks something special. I will miss his jokes and most especially his kindness. He does kindness with style…. We are so sad with your passing, Kuya Rene , but we are comforted to know you are in a better place, no more pain.  Rest In Peace, Kuya Rene. We will continue to pray for you. ❤️

I met rene 16 yrs ago in the post office, he was a great friend always bringing adovo from titas and sharing with me. We both military, it was his day off and i was supposed to cover his route for him but i called in sick. Next thing you know im at 32nd navy exchange shopping and i hear “” little boy who is doing my route”. I turn around and we both started laughing. When he retired he would drive around  in paradise hills and look for me. We would talk. I started sending him messages to see how he was doing i regret not calling sooner. Im sorry brother will always be in my heart.  Every time we would go on a trip he would make me beef jerky my family love it. Rest in peace brother.

Uncle Rene, I will miss your jokes.   I will miss your homemade beef jerky and garlic peanuts.   Most of all, I will miss our early morning walks at Coronado Beach with Auntie Mercie and my dad.   I will truly cherish those times.   Thank you for everything Uncle Rene, I will always be praying for you. ❤️🙏🏼

He would be missed. Tito Rene would entertain us with his jokes and stories about Nana and Tata most of the time. Although we rarely see him, he has his ways of showing his love to us through short conversations and hugs. I may not have thanked him enough for his generosity and love but we truly appreciate YOU. We will always remember your jolly mood everytime we ask how you are, you would always reply, “eto gwapo pa din” . We love you, Tito Rene.
