

Rene A. Espina, a man of unwavering integrity and dedication, has left an indelible mark on the lives he touched. As the penultimate out of 12 siblings, Rene was born in Batangas, Philippines on November 12, 1949 to Marcelino and Eugenia Espina. His journey was filled with a lifetime of achievements and service to others.
Rene’s academic journey took him to the University of Batangas in the Philippines, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, with a major in Business Administration and Accounting. His commitment to excellence extended beyond his undergraduate studies, as he pursued additional education in Accounting at Central Texas College and the University of Maryland.
His professional career commenced as an Accounting Clerk at Carebi Sugar Central Zambales. Later, he joined the Philippines Police Constabulary’s Anti-Narcotics Unit Camp Crame, Quezon City. It was there that his dedication and bravery were recognized with a commendation letter from Brig. Gen. Fidel Ramos, the Chief of Constabulary.
Following his service in the Philippines, Rene embarked on a distinguished naval career in the United States Navy. He retired as a Leading Chief Petty Officer/Deputy Disbursing Officer, having served at various duty stations across the globe, including Italy, the UK, Virginia, Guam, Greece, and more. His exemplary service earned him numerous accolades, including the Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement Medal, as well as appreciation letters and awards for his active leadership and volunteer work.
Rene was an avid volunteer in his community. During his deployment in Nea Maki, Greece, he was recognized by his Commanding Officer for raising funds for personnel on behalf of the Navy Relief Society. In Naples, Italy, he volunteered his free time to improve the morale of military service members and their families as the president of the Fil-Am Association.
Even after retiring from the Navy, Rene Espina continued to excel. He received recognition for his sustained above-average performance as a Postal Worker in the San Diego District.
After retiring from the Navy, Rene also found success as a Real Estate Broker of Record at San Diego County Real Estate Services.
Rene’s commitment to community extended to his involvement as a member of Chula Vista Lodge 626 and his role as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer-Immigration Officer.
Rene’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. His love and devotion extended to his family. He was formerly married to Merrie Espina, and they shared 28 years of marriage before parting ways. Rene leaves behind two children, Marc and Genie, and six grandchildren: Maerene, James, Khristian, MJ, Marlon, and Jaelynn, who will forever cherish his memory.
Rene A. Espina will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man of honor who dedicated his life to serving others. His impact will be felt for generations to come.
A visitation for Rene will be held Friday, October 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Magnolia Room, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. The following day a funeral service will occur Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. Immediately following the funeral service a graveside service will occur Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. The Espina family invites you to the reception will occur Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Orchid Pavilion, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.
