

on December 31, 2013. He was born in Cavite City, Philippines on April
5, 1925. During world war II, he fought against the Japanese with the
Guerilla movement and with the Philippine Scout under the US Army.
He stayed with the US Army after the War and continued his service
stationed in Okinawa Japan at the onset of the Korean War.
Following his stint in the US Army, he worked as a purchasing clerk
with the Special Services at the Sangley Point US Naval Facily, Cavite City;
Upon emigrating to the US he continued working with the US Navy and
eventually retired as a stock clerk at the Navy Exchange in National
City, California.
He was an active member Cursillo movement, the Knights of Columbus,
and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Charles Catholic Church.
Papa Rey, Uncle Ding or Papa, as he was fondly called, was a very
Loving and dedicated husband and father and an excellent doting grandfather.
He was very intelligent; an exceptional chess player. He loved to play basketball
during his younger years until he could no longer play due to knee injury.
Unbeknown to most of us - he was a good swimmer. He also loved to
assemble jigsaw puzzles and was an occasional pool player.
He is survived by his wife, Liwayway Castro Ignacio, children -
Danilo and Minnie, Victor and Minnie, Roland and Karole. He has 5
grandchildren and 5 great granchildren.
"I love you forever and ever and until death do us part" were his
favorite parting words to his wife of 65 years.
